MICHAEL Phelps is among four Americans claiming Olympic gold in individual events in Athens who will be competing in Indianapolis at the 2004 FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships, Oct. 7-11. <\/p>\n<p>The event will take place at Conseco Fieldhouse. Two temporary pools will be constructed for the event inside the Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n<p>Phelps won four individual gold medals in Athen s &#8212; the 400m and 200m individual medleys and the 200m and 100m butterflies. He also won gold medals on the 400m medley relay and 800m freestyle relay teams. In all, Phelps came away from Athens with six gold and two bronze medals, matching the single-greatest medal haul in Olympic history.<\/p>\n<p>Of the nine individual event gold medals won by Americans at the 2004 Olympic Games, eight (8) were won by athletes who will swim at the World Championships. In addition to Phelps, Aaron Peirsol, Amanda Beard and Natalie Coughlin will be competing in Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<p>Only Gary Hall, Jr., among the US  gold medaalists, is not entered in Indianapolis.  Hall won the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>Peirsol, from Irvine, Calif., swept both the 100m and 200m backstrokes. Coughlin, from Concord, Calif., won the 100 backstroke. Beard, from Tucson, Arizona, captured gold in the 200m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Also, of the 22 individual event medals won by Americans at the 2004 Olympic Games, 19 were won by athletes who will swim at the World Championships. <\/p>\n<p>In total, of 23 U.S. swimmers who are expected to compete in the World Championships, 20 won Olympic medals, including those who competed on relay teams in either finals or preliminaries. Not including relays, swimmers coming to Indianapolis broke 11 Olympic records and Phelps, of course, shattered his own world record in the 400m individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>Single-session, single-day and all-session tickets for the 2004 FINA World Championships (25m) are on sale now through Ticketmaster at all Ticketmaster outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at (317) 239-5151 (in Central Indiana) and at the Conseco Fieldhouse Box Office.
