ATHENS, August 23. ALEXANDRE Despatie, a nineteen year old Canadian platform specialist, absolutely sparkled to lead all qualifiers in the preliminary round of the 3-meter springboard diving, which cut the field to 18 for the next round. <\/p>\n
The 5\u20196\u201d youngster was the only competitor scoring over 500 points. He had the highest score on four of the six dives and second-highest on a fifth. <\/p>\n
Others in the medal positions after the preliminaries were Bo Peng of China and Russia\u2019s Alexander Dobroskok. <\/p>\n
America\u2019s top performer was Troy Dumais in fifth spot. The USA\u2019s other entry, Justin Wilcock, failed to advance.<\/p>\n
The semifinal round, which will cut the field to 12 and provide scores from several dives to the finals scoring, is in progress at this time. Finals are scheduled for 9:45 p.m., Athens time today, August 24, 2004.<\/p>\n
