DEARBORN, Mich., August 22. THE ATHLETES with Disabilities Hall of Fame has announced that swimmer Elizabeth Stone has won its "2004 Female Athlete of the Year" award. <\/p>\n
Elizabeth will be honored at the annual Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame dinner on Oct 14th in Dearborn, Michigan. Her bio from ADHOFY follows:<\/p>\n

\nSwimming, Wheelchair Basketball Amputee
\nSeveral recent accomplishments as an amputee swimmer and track & field competitor… Competes as a member of the Rockford Riptide Swim Team… In 2004, she qualified for the Junior Olympics in three events and qualified for the Michigan swimming State Long Course Meet in the 100-meter backstroke… Recently named the Rockford Riptides' "Most Dedicated Swimmer" and received the "Leadership Award" for 2004… In 2003, she established seven national swim records for her age group (100 fly, 100 free, 200 back, 500 free, 100 IM, 50 fly and 50 back)… Also set a national record in the women's 1500 freestyle… Medalist in eight events including three first-place finishes at the 2003 USA Disability Swimming Championships in Minnesota… In 2002 (at the age of 11), she broke the national record in the women's 1500-meter freestyle… Also an accomplished wheelchair basketball player as part of the Junior Pacer program through Grand Rapids Wheelchair Sports… Helped lead her team to a fourth-place finish at the 2004 National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) Prep Nationals in Peoria… Was named to the 2004 NWBA Prep Nationals All-Tournament Team… Also led her team to a third-place finish at the NWBA Varsity Nationals in Philadelphia… In 2003, her team placed third at the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament… Also enjoys skiing and softball… Active in her church youth group and plays violin in the school orchestra… Participates in disability awareness assemblies… Swimmer advocate for the Riptide swim team representing the swimmers to the coaches and parent board… Serves as a mentor and coach to younger swimmers… Born in Georgia, Russia, with a short right femur and ad a congenital amputation of her right leg… Adopted in 1994 from her Russian orphanage when she was four years old… Currently resides in Grand Rapids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
