Thomas<\/p>\n<p>ATHENS, August 18. LETHAL Leisel Jones, Aussie bronze medalist in the 100 meters breaststroke, was first into the semifinal round of the 200 meters this morning with an easy 2:26.02, as the first five women swam 2:26s.<\/p>\n<p>Germany&#39;s Anne Poleska, who swims collegiately for the University of Alabama, was next at 2:26.48, followed by world record-holder Amanda Beard at 2:26.61, defending champion Agnes Kovacs of Hungary (and Arizona State), who looked like the Agnes Kovacs of old with her 2:26.90, and Japan&#39;s Masami Tanaka, at 2:26.91.<\/p>\n<p>Brooke Hanson, Australia&#39;s surprise silver medalist in the 100 meters was sixth in 2:27.42, followed by Germany&#39;s (and Oregon State&#39;s) Birte Stevens<br \/>\nat 2:27.48, and the second American, Caroline Bruce, eighth in 2:27.82.<\/p>\n<p>Watch out for China\u2019s Qi Hui, the former WR-holder in this event, who was 10th in 2:28.66. <\/p>\n<p>Russian Elena Bogomazova was the final qualifier in 2:31.49.
