SWIMMING in a non-seeded heat, Dana Vollmer unfurled the fastest time of the morning preliminaries in the 200-meter freestyle, as the 16-year-old from Texas hit the wall in 2:00.24. Vollmer is one of a number of teenagers battling for Olympic Team berths in the freestyle events.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Benko, the American-record-holder in the event, qualified second, thanks to a victory in the eighth heat. Benko, whose American standard sits at 1:57.41, cruised to a clocking of 2:00.59. She was followed in second place in the heat by Carly Piper (2:01.48).<\/p>\n<p>Kaitlin Sandeno, who has qualified already for the Athens Games in the 400 individual medley and 400 freestyle, got off to a strong start in the 200 freestyle, qualifying for the semifinals in third place with a time of 2:01.02.<\/p>\n<p>Competing in the seventh heat, 17-year-old Rhi Jeffrey packaged a strong finish to her race and was timed in 2:01.45, good for first place ahead of Rachel Komisarz (2:01.81) and Colleen Lanne (2:02.25). Other notable qualifiers for the semifinals included Elizabeth Hill (2:02.08) and Kalyn Keller (2:02.25).<\/p>\n<p>It took 2:02.54 to make the semifinals.  Among the notable non-qualifiers: Diana Munz, 18th;  Stefanie Williams, 21nd; Samantha Arsenault 26th, Jessica Foschi, 30nd; Maritza Correia, 42rd; and Brooke Bennett, 44th.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s 200m
