PREDICTED to be the deepest field in this year\u2019s Trials, the women\u2019s 100 breaststroke did not disappoint during the morning preliminaries, as Staciana Stitts and Amanda Beard uncorked the third and fourth-fastest times in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p>Stitts, a 2000 Olympian, hit the wall in 1:07.20 during the sixth heat, finishing ahead of Megan Quann, the 2000 Olympic gold medalist in the event. Quann placed second in the heat, going 1:09.28. Stitts\u2019 time was just off the meet record of 1:07.12, established by Quann in 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Beard, who owns a share of the world record in the 200 breast, turned in an effort of 1:07.62, as she prevailed in the seventh heat, ahead of Kristy Kowal, the silver medalist at the Sydney Games in the 200 breast.
