INDIANAPOLIS, July 4 – BUTLER swim coach Nichole Ellis has announced 14 newcomers (ten women and four men) to her team for the 2004-05 season. <\/p>\n
The group includes swimmers from six states, including six from Indiana. "The last two years of recruiting work are finally starting to show," said Ellis. "Not only are we bringing in yet another record number of student-athletes, but we are also bringing in some great talent. Our incoming swimmers are from Wisconsin to Florida, which means that Butler and the swimming program are finally becoming recognized across the country." <\/p>\n
"Our women nearly double in size from last year's squad," said Ellis. "With that in mind, I am looking for more records to fall and a stunning presence in the Horizon League." <\/p>\n
Erin Linneman's name might be familiar to Bulldog fans as she ran track for Joe Franklin's squad last season. She will begin her Butler swimming career as a sophomore. <\/p>\n
"We are bringing in one of the top breaststrokers out of Ohio in Evans," said Ellis of a prize men\u2019s recruit. "That just shows the depth that I anticipate for the breaststroke and medley events. As we have finally begun to rise in our swimming goals, our academics are still anticipated to be among the best in history for this Butler swimming team." <\/p>\n
The 14 swimmers won't be the only newcomers to the Butler roster this season. Former IUPUI swimmer Brooke Carr joined the program as an assistant coach following the 2003-04 season. The Bulldogs open their season Oct. 16 at Valparaiso. <\/p>\n
