July 3 &#8211; Navy&#8217;s Noah White, the 2004 Men&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year, posted a 3.44 grade-point average (GPA) during the spring semester, while American&#8217;s Ethan Bassett, Army&#8217;s Charlie Lewis, Holy Cross&#8217; David Picotte and Lafayette&#8217;s David Watts each tallied a perfect 4.00 GPA in the second term.  The group is among the 57 student-athletes named to the 2004 Patriot League Men&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving Academic Honor Roll, announced recently by Carolyn Schlie Femovich, Patriot League Executive Director.<\/p>\n<p>To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the League&#8217;s six winter or nine spring championship sports.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 806 student-athletes were named to the League&#8217;s Winter\/Spring Academic Honor Roll, including 38 with perfect 4.00 GPAs. The Winter\/Spring Academic Honor Roll includes the sports of men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s basketball, men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s swimming &amp; diving, men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s indoor track &amp; field, baseball, golf, men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s lacrosse, men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s outdoor track &amp; field, softball and men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s tennis.<\/p>\n<p>Bucknell led the way with 196 candidates on the League&#8217;s Winter\/Spring Academic Honor Roll.  Lafayette took home top honors on the Men&#8217;s Swimming &amp; Diving Academic Honor Roll with 10 selections, while Bucknell and Colgate finished second on the men&#8217;s swimming &amp; diving list with nine recipients each.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriot League, an NCAA Division I athletics conference founded on the principle of admitting athletes who are academically representative of their class, is in its second decade of academic and athletic excellence. Participation in intercollegiate athletics at Patriot League institutions is viewed as an important component of the undergraduate experience. A successful Division I-AA football conference since 1986 and an all-sport conference since 1990, membership includes American, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy, while six additional institutions hold associate membership. Patriot League member institutions are among the oldest and most prestigious in the nation, graduating alumni who are well prepared for life with the ability to make meaningful contributions to their community and society in general.
