LOS ANGELES, June 16. OLYMPIANS Steve Furniss and Janet Evans will carry the Olympic Torch today as it wends its way through greater Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
Furniss, a two-time Olympian, 1972 Olympic bronze medalist and co-founder of the competitive swimwear company TYR Sport, will carry the torch today at 4:45 pm, beginning at the corner of 2nd Street and Broadway in downtown Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
Steve Furniss competed in both the Munich and Montreal Olympics. During his 17 year swimming career, Steve won four gold medals in Pan American Games competition, and set a world record in 1975 in the 200 meter IM.<\/p>\n
Janet Evans — four-time Olympic gold medalist and world record-holder in the 400, 800 and 1500 meter freestyle events — is one of four final torchbearers today. She is scheduled to carry the torch at 5:45 p.m. at Dodger Stadium.<\/p>\n
Actor Tom Cruise will run the torch into the stadium and pass it to Vitaly Klischenko (world heavyweight boxing champion), who will pass it on to Janet. She, in turn, will pass it on to 1960 Olympic decathlon champion Rafer Johnson, who will light the cauldron.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
