THE TYR Swim Meet of Champions has always been a fast meet.  May 20-23 marked the 35th year of the meet, and the times posted in Mission Viejo, Calif. were no exception to the meet\u2019s fast history, as records fell and the swimming world had a glimpse of some athletes to look out for in Long Beach come Olympic Trials.<\/p>\n<p>Chad Carvin started off the men\u2019s side of the competition by smoking a meet record 7:59.02 in the 800 free, with Larsen Jensen coming in second at 8:01.43.  <\/p>\n<p>Jensen also rocked the pool when he closed out the meet with an awesome 1500 free, clocking in at 15:05.03.  Despite the fact that Jensen is in the midst of peak training, the time shattered the 1988 meet record by Jeff Kostoff by a full 20 seconds, turning heads in the crowd that were all thinking one thing: \u201cAthens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In between Carvin\u2019s start and Jensen\u2019s finish, Ryk Neethling, Justin Mortimer, and Keith Beavers were all making their presence known.  Neethling took both the 100 free (50.60) as well as the 200 free (1:51.09) in times that are fast for this point in the season.  Mortimer stole the 400 free in a 3:52.57, and Keith Beavers was a triple threat, winning the 200 back (2:00.51) and both the 200 and 400 IMs.  Beaver\u2019s 200IM tied the meet record in a 2:03.19, while his 400IM time of 4:20.74 just missed the old record of 4:20.06.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s side of the meet showcased two swimmers with  awesome previews of even faster swimming to come this summer.  The duo of Amanda Beard and Kristen Caverly went 1-2 in the 200 breast, with Beard marking a speedy 2:27.57 and Caverly clocking 2:30.68.  Beard also won the 100 breast in 1:09.25, just missing the meet record of 1:09.13.
