CLOVIS, California, July 24. A couple of podium finishes by Madelyn Murphy, Sidney Cooke and Forrest White pushed the Crow Canyon Sharks into the lead in the combined team standings tonight during the first full night of finals at the Speedo Champions Series sectional meet in Clovis.<\/p>\n
The night started in exciting fashion with a very close finish in the women\u2019s 200 fly. The top five swimmers touched within .71 of each other, led by Crow Canyon\u2019s Madelyn Murphy in 2:19.00. Sonaly Wintermute, competing unattached, touched second in 2:19.33, slightly in front of Santa Barbara Swim Club\u2019s Olivia Smith (2:19.43). Tule Nation Tritons\u2019 Christopher Nolan was the class of the field in the men\u2019s 200 fly, taking the win in 2:02.20. Justin Wright of the Fresno Dolphins dropped four seconds and moved up six spots to second with his 2:03.31, while Lucca Martins of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics claimed third in 2:03.53.<\/p>\n
California Capital Aquatics\u2019 Presley Wetterstrom dominated the women\u2019s 200 breast final, stopping the clock nearly four seconds ahead of the rest of her heat with a 2:33.54. Morganne McKennan of Quicksilver Swimming swam a 2:37.26 to finish second, while Lindsey Englestead of Team Rebel Aquatics posted a 2:38.94 for third. Steven Stumph, a sophomore-to-be at the University of Southern California, took home the men\u2019s 200 breast title in 2:20.09, about two seconds ahead of Thomas Mercurio of the Marin Pirates (2:22.03). Hannon Daigler of Team Rebel Aquatics placed third in 2:22.86.<\/p>\n
Loree Olson of California Capital Aquatics swam away with the women\u2019s 200 back title, touching more than three seconds ahead of Team Rebel Aquatics\u2019 Jessica Wong, 2:17.34 to 2:20.52. Sidney Cooke of Crow Canyon wound up third in 2:21.62. Cooke\u2019s teammate, Forrest White, scored a close victory in the men\u2019s race, out-touching Team Rebel Aquatics\u2019 Hannon Daigler for the win, 2:06.10 to 2:06.18. Lucca Martins of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics rounded out the top three in 2:08.08.<\/p>\n
San Diego State University\u2019s Chelsea Bailey claimed the women\u2019s 100 free title in 57.26, with Team Rebel Aquatics\u2019 Michelle Troup in second at 57.55. Whitney Weisz, also of San Diego State, finished right behind her in 57.65. Chase Lemley of Santa Barbara Swim Club touched .02 ahead of Orinda Aquatics\u2019 Christopher Pearson in the men\u2019s final, 51.63 to 51.65. Simon Pheasant of Sun Oaks Aquatic Racing picked up third in 51.95.<\/p>\n
