Cal\u2019s Natalie Griffith wins in 2:12.99<\/p>\n<p>Heat 2.  USC\u2019s Marisa Kozak, swimming in lane 7, takes the race in 2:12.67.<\/p>\n<p>Heat 3.  Arizona\u2019s Emily Mason, swimming third most of the way, overtakes the leaders on the final lap to touch in 2:08.93, with Mary Descenza 5-hundredths back.  Mason\u2019s splits: 1:01.57-1:07.36.<\/p>\n<p>Heat 4.  In an instant replay of the previous heat, UCLA\u2019s Kim Vandenberg overtakes Kirk to finish in 2:08.07, with Kirk almost a second back at 2:09.03.  Vaandenberg\u2019s splits: 1:01.12-1:06.95.<\/p>\n<p>Heat 5.  Arizona\u2019s gutsy freshman uses a different strategy to best top-seed Kaitlin Sandeno: she takes it to her rival from the start. Sandeno makes a move on the final 50, but it\u2019s too little, too late.  They record the event\u2019s top two times: 2:07.30 and 2:07.69.
