COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 18. IN prelims, Georgia freshman Kara Lynn Joyce set an NCAA, American and US Open record of 24.21, as seven women broke 25 seconds. The final, with Auburn\u2019s four determined Tigers filling half the lanes, promised to be super-fast.<\/p>\n
It was. Showing poise beyond her 18 years, Joyce used a fast turn to take a tiny lead from Auburn\u2019s Coparropa, a Panamanian. At the wall it was Joyce \u2013 the pride of Ann Arbor \u2013 in 24.24, Coparropa, 24.41 in a finish that looked a lot closer than the electronic clock said it was.<\/p>\n
