THE Simon Fraser University (British Columbia) men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving teams took home the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in convincing fashion, dominating the final two days of competition en route to their 16th and 10th national crowns by scoring 562 and 548 points respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The Simon Fraser men were led by sophomore Elliot Burger and junior Paul Wilkins, who took top honors in the 1650-Yard Freestyle and the 100-Yard Freestyle, respectively.  The wins were the third each for Burger and Wilkins in the championships.  <\/p>\n<p>Senior Trevor Brekke continued to rewrite the NAIA record book, setting a new mark in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:03.45, besting the old record of 2:03.51 set in 1993.  In addition to the outstanding individual performances, the Clan men also took the championship in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.  Burger and Wilkins shared Outstanding Male Performer honors.<\/p>\n<p>California Baptist University took second place in the meet behind strong performances from freshman Russell Thompson, who took home second place in the 200 Yard Backstroke, and junior Kevin Callister and sophomore Andy Hintz, who took second and third, respectively, in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.  <\/p>\n<p>Spring Hill College (Ala.) rounded out the top three with a point total of 277.<\/p>\n<p>The Clan women were once again led by junior Amber Dykes and senior Kathleen Stoody, who each claimed her third individual title of the meet.  Dykes captured her third title by winning the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 52.50 seconds, while Stoody came in first in the 200-Yard Breaststroke.  <\/p>\n<p>Senior Jennifer Kasuya continued to perform well, taking home the title in the 200-Yard Backstroke, while sophomore Megan Allen finished second behind Stoody in the 200-Yard Breaststroke.  Dykes, Stoody and freshman Kathryn Rosberg shared the Outstanding Female Performer award for 2004.<\/p>\n<p>The Cal Baptist Lancers finished second thanks to the performances of sophomore Cheryl Ogden, who finished second in the 100 Yard Freestyle, as well as freshman Arienne Gachupin, sophomore Kellie West, and freshman Tabitha Hand, who placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.  Behind Christen Heideman\u2019s victory in the 200 Yard Butterfly, Cumberland College (Ky.) took home third place with 262 points.<\/p>\n<p>Simon Fraser freshman Hayley Rosenlund, who yesterday smashed the NAIA record in the three meter diving competition, was the 2004 Outstanding Female Diver, while teammate Grant Brehaut took home the title of Outstanding Male Diver.<\/p>\n<p>Rob Bond of Illinois Institute of Technology was named the 2004 NAIA Men\u2019s Swimming and Diving Coach of the year.  Illinois Tech finished fourth in the championship.  Simon Fraser\u2019s Liam Donnelly took home the award on the women\u2019s side.  <\/p>\n<p>The Savannah (Ga.)
