TOO little, too late.

On the final day of the EISL Championships at Princeton University, Harvard picked up two points on the Tigers. But the Crimson needed 87. So Princeton earned its second Eastern crown in the last three years, avenging last year's 27-point loss to the Crimson.

Princeton took the 2004 crown, 1,423 to 1,338 with Columbia a trong third with 1,068. The team scores:

1 Princeton, 1,423
2 Harvard, 1,338
3 Columbia, 1,068
4 Yale, 959
5 Cornell, 675
6 Navy, 659
7 Brown, 640
8 Pennsylvania, 577
9 Dartmouth, 534
10 Army, 351

Despite the loss, the Crimson was still able to sweep the individual awards. Rassan Grant and David Cromwell shared the Phil Moriarty Award given to the high-point scorer at the meet. Ricky Roy was named Most Outstanding Diver, and Grant also won the award for the high point-scorer among all seniors in their careers.

Cromwell continued to dominate, winning the 200 backstroke in 1:44.20, establishing a new EISL, meet, and DeNunzio Pool standard in the process. In the best performance of the day, he broke the mark of 1:44.24 set by Harvard's Tom Peterson in 1992.

Rassan Grant helped close the gap to just 33.5 points (1196-1162.5) with his win in the 200 breaststroke (1:59.48). But the Tigers were able to lengthen their lead by capturing two of the top three spots in the 200 butterfly to put the victory on ice.

In the meet's final event, Navy upset the two big Eastern powers to win the 400 free relay in 2:57.16.

Men's EISL Swimming & Diving Championships
March 4-6, 2004
DeNunzio Pool, Princeton
