AND the winner is…

The Auburn Tigers!

At the end of the 2003-4 Division I Swimming & Diving dual meet season, the Auburn Tigers reign supreme at the top of the College Swim Coaches Association (CSCAA) Dual Meet Rankings. Auburn garnered all of the #1 votes from the pollsters in both the Men’s and Women’s polls. They are the CSCAA Dual Meet Champions for the 2003-4 season.

By conference comparison, on the men’s side of things, the SEC boasted five of the top 25 ranking spots including #1 Auburn (Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Kentucky), while the Pac-10 put six teams in the top 25 (Stanford, California, Arizona, Southern Cal, Arizona State, and Washington). The Big-10 also placed five teams in the top 25 as well (Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Indiana).

The ACC and Big 12 Conferences both put two teams in the final rankings as did the Ivy League. (ACC- Virginia and North Carolina; Big 12- Texas and Texas A&M; Ivy- Princeton and Harvard). The Big East, NIC, and the Mt. West both had one representative each to round out the top 25. (Big East- Pittsburgh; NIC- Hawaii; Mt. West- BYU).

On the women’s side of the poll, the SEC with #1 Auburn in the lead, finished the season leading a 1-2-3 sweep, with Georgia and Florida following the Tigers. The PAC-10 took the next four spots (California, Stanford, Arizona and UCLA) and placed a total of six teams from that conference in the top 25 (Southern Cal and Arizona State). The Big 10’s highest placing team was 9th place Wisconsin, but the Conference also put five teams in the top 25 (Wisconsin, Penn State, Indiana, Michigan, and Minnesota).

The ACC was lead by 14th ranked Maryland and put a total of four teams in the rankings (Maryland, North Carolina, Florida State, and Virginia).

The Big 12 placed three teams in the rankings, while the WAC placed two. (Big 12- Texas, Texas A&M and Missouri. WAC- SMU and Hawaii.) The Big East and the Ivy League each had one team in the rankings. (Big East- Notre Dame; Ivy- Princeton.)

Already some of the women’s conference championships have taken place and the NCAA Championships are just around the corner. The Women’s NCAA Championship will be at the Texas A&M Natatorium March 18-20, 2004. The Men’s Championship will be held at the Nassau County Natatorium in Long Island, NY March 25-27, 2004.

Because of the Olympic year, both championships will be held in short-course meters as opposed to the traditional short-course yards format. This is being done to allow NCAA swimmers to break and set world records which are only kept in metric pools.

College Swim Coaches Association (CSCAA)
Division I Swimming and Diving Team
FINAL Dual Meet Rankings for the 2003-4 Season

Rank MEN’S DIV.
