FOR the fourth consecutive year, the Massachusetts\u2019 men topped the Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center in Buffalo, N.Y., while the Richmond women took home the title for the third consecutive year.<\/p>\n<p>Totaling 840 points for the competition, Massachusetts finished in first place, with St. Bonaventure in second at 586.5. Following was La Salle (458.5) in third, George Washington (408) in fourth, Xavier (398) in fifth, Fordham (299) in sixth, Duquesne (257.5) in seventh, and Rhode Island (240.5) in eighth. <\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts captured three individual and one relay first place finishes. Freshman Evan Swisher took first in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:51.68. In the 100-yard freestyle, junior Justin Zeimetz placed first with a time of 45.31. Senior Conner Townsend touched first in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:51.10. Zeimetz teamed with juniors Owen Scollan and Ryan Matthews, and freshman Gordon Leonard to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:03.27.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200-yard backstroke, St. Bonaventure junior Adrian Blaszczak finished first and qualified for the NCAA B qualifiers in a time of 2:00.87.<\/p>\n<p>George Washington freshman Sean Flaherty took first in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 15.47.39.<\/p>\n<p>On the boards, La Salle freshman Karo Isajan captured a first-place finish in the three-meter diving competition with 486.40, qualifying him for the NCAA B qualifiers. St. Bonaventure senior Randy Kozlowski, the A-10\u2019s 2003 Most Outstanding Diving Performer, also made the NCAA B cut with a score of 480.55 in the three-meter competition.<\/p>\n<p>The A-10 honored Blaszczak with the Most Outstanding Performer award, who totaled 60 individual points for the meet. Flaherty was honored as the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, totaling 53 points in the meet. The 2004 Coach of the Year was Russ Yarworth of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>The Most Outstanding Diving Performer award went to Isajan, while La Salle\u2019s Diane Maise was named the 2004 Diving Coach of the Year. <\/p>\n<p>Richmond dictated the championships on the women\u2019s side, finishing with 442.5 points ahead of second-place St. Bonaventure (447) with 889.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>In the 100-yard freestyle, Richmond sophomore Brooke Boncher, the A-10\u2019s 2003 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer, captured first with a time of 50.24, surpassing the previous pool record of 50.25 and qualifying her for the NCAA B meet. Freshman Holly Hinds took first in the 1,650-yard freestyle event in a time of 16:54.47. Junior Mary Adams, the A-10\u2019 2003 Most Outstanding Performer, touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:18.66, breaking the prior A-10 record of 2:18.83. In the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Megan Riley finished first in 2:06.01. Adams and Boncher teamed with freshman Michelle Coombs and senior Mo Sabri to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:23.72, qualifying them for the NCAA B meet.<\/p>\n<p>George Washington sophomore Maggie Moss took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.77. <\/p>\n<p>The A-10 honored Boncher with the Most Outstanding Performer award, who totaled 60 individual points for the meet.
