CAIRO, Egypt, February 20. THE third day of the Egyptian National Championships got off to a roaring start when National Team teammates Ahmed Salah Abdou and Aahmed Mahmoud El Abady both bettered the qualifying standard for the Olympic Games in the 200 meter butterfly. The win brings Abdou's total to three victories, but he had to hold off a fast-closing El Abady and barely got to the wall first.<\/p>\n
In what National Head Coach Al Dodson called "the most exciting race that I've seen in my 37-year coaching career", Hebatallah Hany Selim defeated her close friend and training partner Samiha Yesmine Mubarak by .03 seconds. Both women bettered Salim's former Egyptian national record by over a second.<\/p>\n
Other winners included: Dina Moustafa Khaled Hegaz in the 100m backstoke, her second victory; Ahmed El Hosny El Kholy, 50m breaststroke; Nihal Mohamed Ibrahim, 50m freestyle; Yasmeen Abdel Rahman Mah, 200m breaststroke; Mohamed Mamdouh Abdel Han, 200m freestyle; and Mohamed Aly Abdel Aziz in the 400m I.M.<\/p>\n
