VILLANOVA, Penn, February 10. THE Villanova swimming & diving team wrapped up its 2003-04 home season in a dual meet versus Syracuse at the Villanova Swim Center. It was the final home meet for nine Wildcat seniors including All-American Rebecca Koch, and the Wildcats celebrated by turning in a number of outstanding performances by both swimmers and divers. The Villanova women defeated the Orangewomen by the score of 168-124, while the men fell at the hands of the Orangemen 191-93. <\/p>\n

Prior to the meet, the Wildcats' nine graduating seniors (Ryan Costella, James Wolczynski, Michelle Diago, Moira Durkin, Rebecca Koch, Julie Rhines, Andie Scelsi, Amy Sfara, and Katie Shipe) were honored for their years of dedication to the swimming & diving program, as well as their vast lists of accomplishments. <\/p>\n

Senior divers Julie Rhines and Amy Sfara each won on the diving board to get things started for the Wildcats. Rhines finished first in the three-meter dive (240.30), while Sfara took the one-meter dive (248.93). <\/p>\n

Koch was her sensational self yet again for Villanova, turning in four great performances to secure the win for the women. She won the 200 freestyle (1:51.33), 100 butterfly (57.32), and 500 freestyle (4:56.87) and also helped lead the women's 200 medley relay squad to victory. Seniors Katie Shipe and Michelle Diago also contributed to the win with solid swims in the backstroke and IM events, respectively. <\/p>\n

On the men's side, senior co-captain Ryan Costella wrapped up his dual meet career with his fastest in season time in the 500 freestyle. <\/p>\n

Fellow senior co-captain James Wolczynski improved once again in his dual meet swims and is gearing up for next weekend's Rutgers Invitational. <\/p>\n

Other excellent performances were turned in by the members of the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes to make this a true team effort. <\/p>\n
