THE second-ranked Lady Bulldogs used a 173.5-109.5 win against South Carolina Saturday at the Carolina Natatorium in Columbia to post an undefeated regular season and tie a program high with 11 wins. The Georgia men completed the sweep with a 182-116 win against the Gamecocks to wrap up the dual meet season.

"The teams did a great job ending the regular season with a win," said Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle.

The Lady Bulldogs end the dual meet season at 11-0 and 5-0 against conference opponents. The women have now posted a perfect regular season seven times since 1973 with the previous coming in 2001 (10-0). Saturday's win against the Gamecocks also tied the program record of 11 dual-meet wins in a season set last year (11-1). Georgia has now won the last 14 dual meets against South Carolina dating back to 1984 and holds an 18-3 advantage in the all-time series.

Georgia claimed wins against three teams ranked in the top 10 nationally en route to an undefeated season, including then-No. 2 Florida at home.

"We are definitely proud of our ladies," said Bauerle. "It is not as if we dodged anyone. We beat Florida when (the Gators) were No. 2, Texas (in Austin when it was ranked) at No. 5 and SMU, who was ranked No. 9. This is a good group of athletes, but it is also a group of tough ladies. It is not easy going undefeated with the schedule we have. You not only have to be talented but tough. We have great leadership and a good mix of veterans and new faces."

The Georgia men (9-2, 4-1) posted a nine-win season for only the third time in the last 23 years. The Bulldogs last won nine meets during the 2000-01 season (9-3). Georgia has won 11 of the last 12 meets against the Gamecocks, and the Bulldogs avenged a 123-120 loss suffered two years ago in Columbia.

"I am very pleased with the men this season winning nine dual meets," said Bauerle. "They fought real hard, and we have had a lot of great wins this year. From here on in we prepare for the SEC and NCAA Championship. We are a much deeper team than we have been in recent years."

In the 16-event short-course yards program for each team, the Lady Bulldogs won the first five events while the Bulldogs touched first in four of the first five races to take a commanding lead en route to the sweep.

Event winners for the women include Melissa Klein (1000 free, 200 breast), Kara Lynn Joyce (200 free, 500 free), Mary DeScenza (100 back, 100 free), Rachel Myco (200 fly), Haley Chura (200 back), Clair Maust (400 IM) and Lindsey Ertter (100 breast).

"Mary DeScenza and Kara Lynn Joyce were spectacular for us today," added Bauerle.

Taking top honors for the men were Robert Margalis (1000 free), Peter Osborn (100 back), Randy Lam (200 fly, 400 IM), Scott Gardner (50 free, 100 breast), Scott Lenyk (200 back), Chris Colwill (3-meter diving) and Jonathan Schmidt (100 fly).

“We were really good across the board," said Bauerle. "Scott Gardner did a great job for us, and Chris Colwill did a nice job on the boards as well."

The South Carolina women were led by Heather Skaggs who took first in both the 50 yard freestyle (23.55) and the 100 yard butterfly (29.63). Diver Allison Brennan had outstanding performance in the 1 meter(310.05) and 3 meter (287.03) diving events taking first in both. Lauren King, who is coming off of aninjury, came in close behind in the 1 meter with a score of 276.08 Head Diving Coach Todd Sherritt is veryoptimistic about the SEC championships with these divers leading the way for the women. If Brennan can hit her dives, she will be untouchable at the SEC Championships" stated Sherritt. Also, with last year AllAmerican King, and freshman Lyndsey Havens the Gamecocks should do well in the Championships.

For the men, Tamas Szucs led the way finishing in the top position in both the 500 yard freestyle (4:31.55) and the 200 yard freestyle (1:38.67). Also taking first place honors for the Gamecocks were Ed Murphy in the 100 yard freestyle (46.33) and Justin Kata in the 200 yard backstroke (2:08.69). Lir Derieg had a personal best time of 52.18 in the 100 yard backstroke and Tim Farrington also had a personal best in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 9:29.57. Diver Andy Bradley had a first place finish in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 374.55.

RESULTS:
Event 1 Women 200 Yard Medley Relay<br
