STANFORD, Calif., Jan. 23. THE Stanford men's swimming team (4-0, 1-0 Pac-10) notched their fourth consecutive dual meet victory this season with a 127-107 win over Arizona State this afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Center. The meet was contested in a 25-meter course.<\/p>\n

The Cardinal opened the meet with a win in the 400 meter medley relay as the team of Peter Marshall, Michael Bruce, Matt McDonald and Ben Wildman-Tobriner posted a time of 3:37.61. The Stanford relay team of Markus Rogan, Gary Marshall, Bobby O'Bryan and Andrew Schnell took second, clocking in at 3:38.87. Both times are provisional qualifying times for NCAAs.<\/p>\n

Sophomore swimmer Tobias Oriwol swam to top honors in the 800 meter freestyle, turning in a time of 8:08.86 while teammate Kyle Ransom placed second (8:22.88). The Cardinal also finished 1-2 in the 200 meter freestyle as junior Jayme Cramer won the event in a time of 1:47.85. Freshman Andy Grant was second (1:50.44). Both times are provisional qualifying times for NCAAs as well.<\/p>\n

The fourth event of the day was the 50 meter freestyle, where Arizona State's Nick Brunelli (22.45) edged Stanford freshman Ben Wildman-Tobriner (22.59) for the top spot. Senior swimmer Bobby O'Bryan placed third in a time of 23.09. Stanford finished 1-2-3 in the 200 meter IM with freshman Hongzhe Sun claiming victory (2:03.08), followed by fellow frosh Keenan Newman (2:05.04) and junior Dan Trupin (2:07.21).<\/p>\n

Arizona State's Joona Puhakka won the one-meter diving event with a score of 363.52. Stanford freshman Kevin McLean turned in the second-highest score on the afternoon with a 302.25. <\/p>\n

Event seven was the 200 meter butterfly won by ASU's David Kolozar in a time of 1:58.18. Cardinal junior Matt McDonald took second, clocking in at 2:01.29. <\/p>\n

Another terrific race developed in the 100 meter freestyle with Sun Devil Nick Brunelli (49.52) edging Ben Wildman-Tobriner (49.91) for top honors. Freshman Matt Crowe placed third for Stanford in a time of 52.38.<\/p>\n

The Cardinal finished 1-2-3 in the 200 meter backstroke as senior Markus Rogan (1:54.98), Peter Marshall (1:55.94) and freshman Hongzhe Sun (1:58.19) led the field. Both Rogan and Marshall turned in automatic NCAA qualifying times in this event. Jayme Cramer picked up his second win on the afternoon with a victory in the 400 meter freestyle (3:50.80). Sophomore swimmer Michael McLean was second (3:54.65) while freshman Shuan Phillips placed third (4:00.02).<\/p>\n

ASU's Gordon Blukis won the three-meter diving event with a score of 316.80. Frosh Kevin McLean had the third-best score on the day (289.95). <\/p>\n

Cardinal senior Michael Bruce claimed top honors in the 200 meter breaststroke, clocking in at 2:15.61. Junior Gary Marshall finished third in a time of 2:17.31. The final event of the day was the 400 meter freestyle relay as the Cardinal turned in the top time with a 3:20.35 (Rogan, P. Marshall, O'Bryan, Schnell).<\/p>\n
