Pool Records from Jakub Poliacik, Levente Balogh Help Virginia Tech Split with Duke<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jakub Poliacik<\/strong> and Levente Balogh<\/strong> set pool records as Virginia Tech split a dual meet with Duke on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The 11th-ranked Virginia Tech men claimed a 206-94 win over the Blue Devils in Durham, while the No. 21 Duke women\u2019s team claimed a 147-98 victory.<\/p>\n

Poliacik picked up a pair of Taishoff Aquatic Center records. He won the 200 freestyle in 1:35.31, a half-second under the old mark. In the 500 free, he went 4:19.87 to dash the mark by 2.6 seconds.<\/p>\n
Balogh went 1:43.82 in the men\u2019s 200 backstroke. That is more than a second ahead of the existing record. Balogh was also second in the 100 back in 47.11 behind the winning time of 46.93 from teammate Connor Johnson.<\/strong><\/p>\n
Eli Martin\u2019s<\/strong> breaststroke prowess was a major factor for the Hokies. He swam on the winning 200 medley relay, joining Andy Roose, Aidan Paro<\/strong> and Javier Nunez<\/strong> in 1:26.24 for what ended up a Hokies 1-2. Martin won the 100 breast in 53.13, then the 200 breast in 1:55.95 and the 200 individual medley in 1:47.95, the latter by just .11 seconds over Duke\u2019s Charlie Zuhoski.<\/strong><\/p>\n
Paro did the fly double, winning the 200 in 1:45.58 and the 100 in 46.82. Nunez claimed the 50 free in 19.90 in a 1-2 with Diego Aranda,<\/strong> then claimed the 100 free in 44.45. Nathan Cox<\/strong> swept the diving events, his 361.88 on 1-meter winning by 50 points to go with a mark of 386.78 on 3-meter.<\/p>\n
Charlie Kulp<\/strong> secured Duke\u2019s only individual swimming win by going 9:09.65 in the 1,000 free. Kulp also led off the winning 400 free relay with Milo Shue, Owen Waibel<\/strong> and Ryan Griffith<\/strong> for 2:56.60.<\/p>\n
On the women\u2019s side, Ali Pfaff<\/strong> starred for the Blue Devils. She won the 200 free in 1:46.21. She went 49.29 to win the 100 free over teammate Tierney Lenahan.<\/strong> Pfaff then led off Duke\u2019s winning 400 free relay with Clare Logan,<\/strong> Lenahan and Riley Anderson.<\/strong><\/p>\n
Lenahan, Reese Reilly,<\/strong> Anderson and Heather White<\/strong> comprised the winning 200 medley relay that won in 1:38.89, with a Duke 1-2 to booth. Anderson was second in the 50 free, then won the 100 fly in 52.98. Lenahan won the 100 back in 52.56 in a 1-2 with Logan, and Molly Donlan<\/strong> led a 1-2-3 result in the 200 back with her time of 1:55.98. Reilly won the 200 breast in 2:15.23.<\/p>\n
Quinn White<\/strong> claimed the 500 free in 4:49.22. Gracyn Kehoe<\/strong> sealed the victory with a win in the 200 IM, beating Virginia Tech\u2019s Amanda Barnard<\/strong> by .02 seconds. Duke also got big points from Keira Lu,<\/strong> who scored 310.73 to win 1-meter. She tallied 342.15 to lead a 1-2-3 on 3-meter.<\/p>\n
Noa<\/strong> Martin<\/strong> won the 1,000 free for Virginia Tech in 9:56.14, a quarter-second up on teammate Bengisu Caymaz. Emily Santos<\/strong> won the 100 breast (then fell .03 behind Reilly in the 200), Barnard claimed the 200 fly and Alexandra Hrncarova<\/strong> won the 50 free in consecutive events to give the Hokies some momentum early until the Duke 100 free double stopped it in its tracks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
