Indiana swimming and diving won all four decisions in Friday\u2019s tri meet with No. 25\/13 USC and No. 20\/NR Kentucky Friday (Oct. 23) afternoon inside the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n

The Hoosier men and women combined to win 24 of 30 events despite missing a handful of athletes preparing for next week\u2019s USA Swimming Short Course World Championship Trials. Indiana swept the diving events and won three of four relays.<\/p>\n

Miranda Grana<\/strong> led the way, sweeping her individual events and leading off the women\u2019s 200 medley relay victory. Grana swept the backstroke events and added a third victory in the 100-yard butterfly in Alex Shackell\u2019<\/strong>s absence. Kristina Paegle<\/strong> added two wins of her own in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, and Lily Witte<\/strong> swept the springboards with wins on 1-meter and 3-meter. Seven different Hoosier women \u2013 and three freshmen \u2013 recorded events wins on Friday.<\/p>\n

On the men\u2019s side, Toby Barnett<\/strong> represented \u201cBreaststroke U\u201d with win in the 100 breast and 200 breast. First-year Hoosier Gabriel Manteufel<\/strong> gave IU distance victories in the 500 free and 1,000 free. On the springboards, Mason Mankey<\/strong> and Josh Hedberg<\/strong> combined to complete the sweep of 1-meter and 3-meter, respectively.<\/p>\n

A pair of first-year distance Hoosiers jumped up the all-time lists. Paige Downey<\/strong> became IU\u2019s No. 2 performer all-time in the 1,000-yard freestyle, setting a personal best time in 9:33.91 \u2013 her time just surpassing Lindsay Vrooma<\/strong>n\u2019s best time from the 2014 NCAA Championships (9:33.94). In the next event, Manteufel went an 8:49.53 in the men\u2019s 1,000 free to become the No. 4-best performer.<\/p>\n

Kentucky’s Devin Naoroz, Cayden Pitzer, Lysander Osman<\/strong> and Falemana Tuufui<\/strong> won the 200 medley relay (1:23.86). Stephan De Freitas Steverink<\/strong> won the 200 free in 1:34.50. Osman won the 100 back (45.20). Tuufui won the 50 free (19.18).<\/p>\n

USC’s Michal Chmielewksi<\/strong> won the 100 fly (45.79).<\/p>\n

USC’s Minna Abraham<\/strong> won the 200 free in 1:43.76. Sage Miller<\/strong> won the 200 fly in 1:57.06. Brigitta Vass<\/strong> claimed the 200 back in 2:10.59.<\/p>\n
