{"id":655711,"date":"2026-10-20T14:00:17","date_gmt":"2026-10-20T21:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=655711"},"modified":"2026-10-20T14:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-20T21:36:07","slug":"njcaa-powerhouse-indian-river-state-college-swimming-and-diving-in-jeopardy-of-being-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/njcaa-powerhouse-indian-river-state-college-swimming-and-diving-in-jeopardy-of-being-cut\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian River State College Swimming and Diving In Jeopardy of Being Cut; Petition Gaining Momentum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>NJCAA Powerhouse Indian River State College Swimming and Diving In Jeopardy of Being Cut<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The school with the longest national championship title streak might lose its swim program.<\/p>\n<p>Indian River State College in Florida has had a dynasty at the National Junior College Association of America (NJCAA) level.<\/p>\n<p>The men have won 52 consecutive NJCAA national titles, while the women have won 48.<\/p>\n<p>Those streaks could be in jeopardy because of an upcoming board of trustees meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The agenda for the Oct. 27 Indian River State College Board of Trustees Governance &amp; Legislative Affairs Committee meeting has been released and one of the items on the docket involves athletics, specifically swimming and diving.<\/p>\n<p>The agenda stats that the first order of business is to &#8220;Request approval of the Recommendations by the President and Cabinet for the proposed Athletic Restructuring Plan.<\/p>\n<p>There are three parts to the plan.<\/p>\n<p>The first is to &#8220;Eliminate both the Men&#8217;s &amp; Women&#8217;s Swimming and Diving programs, effective at the start of the Fall 2027-28 academic year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The second is a transition for baseball, softball and men&#8217;s basketball to Division 2 competition, joining volleyball.<\/p>\n<p>The third is an evaluation of the cost feasibility to reinstate the women&#8217;s basketball program.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a time of public comment after the plan is introduced to the committee.<\/p>\n<p>The possible dropping of Indian River swimming and diving has already had backlash and petitions have been gathering signatures to try and save the program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/save-irsc-swimming-and-diving-programs?recruiter=1432928790&amp;recruited_by_id=a1f553c0-ccc1-11f1-9fa6-ab774832c222&amp;utm_source=share_petition&amp;utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&amp;utm_term=psf_combo_share_initial&amp;utm_medium=copylink&amp;share_id=GzLGXWdBGG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here is one of those petitions.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More College News<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NJCAA Powerhouse Indian River State College Swimming and Diving In Jeopardy of Being Cut The school with the longest national championship title streak might lose its swim program.
