{"id":655551,"date":"2026-10-17T21:02:02","date_gmt":"2026-10-18T04:02:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=655551"},"modified":"2026-10-17T21:02:02","modified_gmt":"2026-10-18T04:02:02","slug":"ben-delmar-samantha-armand-help-north-carolina-sweep-duke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ben-delmar-samantha-armand-help-north-carolina-sweep-duke\/","title":{"rendered":"Ben Delmar, Samantha Armand Help North Carolina Sweep Duke"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ben Delmar, Samantha Armand Help North Carolina Sweep Duke<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Four wins apiece from <strong>Ben Delmar, Sean Setzer<\/strong> and <strong>Samantha Armand<\/strong> led North Carolina to a pair of wins against archrival Duke on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s team claimed a decisive 220.5-79.5 decision at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, while the women claimed a 179.5-120.5 result.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/goduke.com\/documents\/2026\/10\/17\/uncvs.duke_results.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Meet Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Delmar claimed the 100 breaststroke in a UNC podium sweep, going 52.57 to get to the wall first. He then won the 200 breast in another sweep, this time with a time of 1:53.31. (<strong>Xavier Ruiz<\/strong> and <strong>Giulian Martin<\/strong> filled the podium behind him in both.) Delmar added the win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:46.71.<\/p>\n<p>Delmar started the night by swimming breaststroke on the victorious 400 medley relay, the Tar Heels going 3:06.96 with <strong>Colin Whelehan, PJ Foy<\/strong> and Setzer.<\/p>\n<p>Setzer outsprinted teammate <strong>Martin Kartavi<\/strong> by .13 seconds to win the 50 freestyle in 19.41. He was second to mate <strong>Julian Swiderski<\/strong> (44.20) in the 100 free by .09 seconds. Setzer\u2019s 44.11 led off the victorious 400 free relay, the Tar Heels going 2:53.27. <strong>Nate Hohm,<\/strong> Kartavi and Foy joined him on that squad.<\/p>\n<p>Whelehan captured the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:44.17. Foy prevailed in the 100 fly in 46.16. <strong>Josh Parent<\/strong> won the 1,000 free in 9:15.90. <strong>Granger Bartee<\/strong> won the 100 backstroke in 47.93, edging out <strong>David Melnychuk<\/strong> by .07 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Duke got wins from <strong>Charlie Kulp,<\/strong> who went 1:35.91 in the 200 free and 4:24.83 in the 500, and <strong>Cade Anderson<\/strong> with a 1:43.96 in the 200 back.<\/p>\n<p>Armand led the way for the UNC women. She teamed with <strong>Sophia Frei, Lillian Sawyer<\/strong> and <strong>Michaela Chokureva<\/strong> to win the 400 medley relay by precisely two seconds in 3:32.01. Armand\u2019s 1:00.03 in the 100 breast was tops in a UNC sweep of the top four spots, and it was a 1-2 with <strong>Raya Mellott<\/strong> in the 200 breast led by Armand\u2019s time of 2:12.87. Armand also won the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.88.<\/p>\n<p>UNC opened with a 1-2-3 in the 1,000 free led by <strong>Lexie Ward\u2019s<\/strong> time of 9:48.70. Ward was second in the 500 free, just .04 seconds off a second victory. Sawyer won the 200 free in 1:46.47 with <strong>Maren Conze<\/strong> second and clocked in at 52.31 to register the win in the 100 fly. <strong>Mary Macaulay<\/strong> (1:56.74) and <strong>Taylor Bloom<\/strong> went 1-2 in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<p>Duke finished the meet by winning the 400 free relay in 3:16.54, with the team of <strong>Ali Pfaff, Sidney Arcella, Clare Logan<\/strong> and <strong>Tierney Lenahan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pfaff claimed the 100 back in 51.57 \u2013 with Lenehan tying UNC\u2019s <strong>Sophia Frei<\/strong> for second \u2013 before Pfaff\u2019s 1:52.24 edged Frei in the 200.
