The event, which honors the performances of the United States at the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine earlier this year, bestowed seven awards, including Female and Male Athletes of the Year presented by Omega and the Relay of the Year presented by Toyota.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Golden Goggle Awards are USA Swimming\u2019s annual celebration honoring athletes, coaches, and alumni for their impact on the sport of swimming throughout the year. All proceeds directly benefit the USA Swimming Foundation\u2019s mission of\u00a0<em>Saving Lives, Building Champions, and Impacting Communities<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>2026 USA Swimming Golden Goggle Award Winners:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Female Athlete of the Year, presented by Omega:\u00a0<strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Male Athlete of the Year, presented by Omega:\u00a0<strong>Van Mathias<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Coach of the Year, presented by Omega:\u00a0<strong>Todd DeSorbo<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Fran Crippen Open Water Athlete of the Year:\u00a0<strong>Becca Mann<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Relay of the Year presented by Toyota:\u00a0<strong>Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay \u2013 Will Modglin, Van Mathias, Gretchen Walsh, and Kate Douglass<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Alumni of the Year: Emily Klueh<\/li>\n<li>Breakout Performer of the Year:\u00a0<strong>McKenzie Siroky<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Female Athlete of the Year presented by Omega: Kate Douglass<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong>\u00a0(Pelham, N.Y.\/New York Athletic Club) put together one of the most memorable meets in Pan Pacific Championships history in Irvine, Calif., where she won six medals, four of them gold. On the final night of competition, she broke the world record in the 50m freestyle twice in the same day, first in prelims at 23.49 and again in the final with a 23.19. She also broke the American record in the 100m freestyle with a 51.69, leading off the women&#8217;s 4x100m freestyle relay, which set an American record of 3:29.32, and her lead-off came within .01 of the world record. Douglass anchored the mixed 4x100m medley relay to a world record of 3:36.70 and the women&#8217;s 4x100m medley relay to a championship record of 3:50.43 and added silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 200m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Douglass on the last year: \u201cLooking back on this last year, I don\u2019t think I would have thought Female Athlete of the Year was in my future. Obviously, there are so many amazing swimmers on Team USA right now. So, I was really excited about my performances this summer. It surprised me and others. It wasn\u2019t necessarily the events I had focused on at the beginning of the year. After first breaking the American record in the 50m breaststroke at the Bergen Swim Festival in April (26.39), Mathias lowered it again to 26.30 at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis. Later that week, he swam 58.01 in the 100m breaststroke, breaking the American record set in 2021. At the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, Calif., Mathias won gold in the 100m breaststroke in a championship record time of 58.02. He split 57.30 on the breaststroke leg of the world-record mixed 4x100m medley relay (3:36.70) and added a second relay gold with the men&#8217;s 4x100m medley relay, which set a championship record. He also earned silver medals in the 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly for a total of five medals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Mathias on winning this award: \u201cI don\u2019t know how to process this. It doesn\u2019t feel real. But it\u2019s fun, it\u2019s exciting. I didn\u2019t think that I would be doing this a year ago. I\u2019m in shock. This year I&#8217;ve learned a lot, not only in the pool, but about myself. I&#8217;ve faced a lot of challenges and obstacles at work and in life. I think I&#8217;ve matured a lot this year, and it\u2019s all gone by fast. One of the things I\u2019ve learned I need to do is to enjoy moments like this and soak it in.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Coach of the Year presented by Omega: Todd DeSorbo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the third year in a row,\u00a0<strong>Todd DeSorbo\u00a0<\/strong>won the Coach of the Year Award presented by Omega. DeSorbo is the head coach for the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s swim teams at the University of Virginia. This past year, he led the UVA women to a sixth consecutive NCAA title, becoming the first coach to win six straight NCAA women&#8217;s swimming and diving team championships. The streak is the longest in NCAA swimming and diving history, men&#8217;s or women&#8217;s, surpassing Stanford&#8217;s five straight titles from 1992 to 1996. The Cavaliers scored a program-record 589 points, finished 208.5 points ahead of second place, and swept all five relays, including an NCAA record in the 400-freestyle relay. On the international stage, DeSorbo&#8217;s current and former UVA swimmers led the way for Team USA, headlined by Kate Douglass, who broke the world record in the 50m freestyle three times this season and set an American record in the 100m freestyle. DeSorbo was also named the ASCA George Haines Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year, and he earned the CSCAA Division I Women&#8217;s Coach of the Year award for the sixth straight year (2021-2026).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>DeSorbo on the award and his team: \u201cIt\u2019s amazing. Just to be nominated with all of the other coaches. Six or seven years ago, this would never have been a dream. My team is just amazing people. Their work ethic, focus, and commitment are unbelievable. They inspire me, and it makes me want to work harder for them. All of the things they are doing are unbelievable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Fran Crippen Open Water Athlete of the Year: Becca Mann<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Becca Mann (Homer Glen, Ill.\/TAC Titans) led the U.S. women in open water at the Pan Pacific Championships, finishing as the top American in the 10K in Long Beach, Calif., and leading the U.S. to the overall team award. Mann placed fourth in 1:56:15, just eight seconds off the podium. She also raced the 800m and 1500m freestyle in Irvine. Earlier in the season, Mann placed fourth in the 10K at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships in Sarasota, Fla., earning a spot at the World Cup stops in Ibiza and Golfo Aranci.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8220;Fran was the reason that I&#8217;d gained lifelong friends as a somewhat difficult 15-year-old,&#8221; Mann said about what the award means to her. &#8220;That&#8217;s the legacy of USA Swimming&#8217;s Open Water National Team and one that I vow to carry forward. For every swimmer that joins, they not only gain access to the grittiest, wildest, most adventurous, best sport in the world, but they also gain a family that was started by Fran.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Relay of the Year presented by Toyota:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U. S. closed the opening night of the Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, Calif., with a world record in the mixed 4x100m medley relay. Will Modglin, Van Mathias, Gretchen Walsh, and Kate Douglass touched in 3:36.70 to break the Americans&#8217; own mark of 3:37.43 from the 2024 Paris Olympics. Modglin led off with a 53.40 backstroke split to put the U.S. in front, though the team was more than a second off world-record pace. Mathias turned the race with a 57.30 breaststroke split to put the record back in reach, Walsh extended the lead on butterfly, and Douglass brought it home in 51.01 to secure gold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Walsh on the meaning of this relay: \u201cI\u2019m so proud of this team. This specific relay really stuck the flag in the ground and set the tone for what LA28 is going to be like. So, this is such an honor. There is no better feeling than breaking a world record with U.S. teammates, and we hope they keep the momentum going.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Douglass on the relay: \u201cIt was so much fun racing on this relay. I love Team USA relays. They are the best part of every meet.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Mathias on the relay team: \u201cRelays are my favorite thing, and to be able to celebrate with these incredible women and the team is awesome.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Alumni of the Year: Emily Klueh<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A 10-year member of the U.S. National Team, Emily Klueh has spent her post-competition career making mental health a priority for swimmers. At the University of Michigan, she was the 2008 Big Ten Swimmer of the Year and the NCAA champion in the 1,650-yard freestyle before switching to open water swimming. There, she won bronze in the 10K at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships and four Open Water World Cup gold medals from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, she became the first American to win the Open Water World Cup tour title. After retiring, Klueh turned her passion for the sport into a way to give back, earning her master&#8217;s in social work from Michigan and serving as program coordinator for Athletes Connected, supporting athletes through the same battles she once faced. She returned to USA Swimming in 2023 as its first-ever Manager of Psychological Services, where she oversees mental health and performance resources for the National and National Junior Teams, providing clinical care to athletes and educational programming for coaches. Today, she continues her fight against breast cancer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8220;I am incredibly proud of my swimming career and everything I was fortunate enough to accomplish,&#8221; Klueh said. &#8220;But as I&#8217;ve gotten older, I&#8217;ve become even more grateful for what swimming gave me beyond the pool. Swimming gave me a voice. It gave me a community, a purpose, and ultimately the path towards the work I do today. Advocating for and supporting athletes as people, not just performers.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8220;Emily has made a lasting impact on the sport of swimming, first as a standout competitor in open water and now as an advocate for the mental health and well-being of our National Team athletes,&#8221; said USA Swimming Chief Legal &amp; Development Officer Michelle Steinfeld. &#8220;Her dedication to supporting athletes and commitment to giving back to our community make her a deserving recipient of the Alumni of the Year Award.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Breakout Performer of the Year: McKenzie Siroky<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McKenzie Siroky (Livonia, Mich.\/Tennessee Aquatics) emerged as one of the country&#8217;s top breaststrokers in 2026, just three years after giving up ice hockey to focus on swimming. At the Toyota National Championships, she won national titles in both the 50m breast and the 100m breast, edging Kate Douglass by .02. At her first Pan Pacific Championships, Siroky won gold in the 100m breaststroke with a lifetime best of 1:05.32. She added a silver in the 50m breaststroke and split 1:05.07 on the breaststroke leg of the women&#8217;s 4x100m medley relay, which won gold in a championship record finish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Siroky on the support behind winning the award: \u201cThe reason why these swimmers can do what we do is because of the amount of support we have. I appreciate everyone who pours into our athletes, which lets us go out and compete.
