On Night One, Ledecky edged Pallister in the 1500 freestyle, the Australian delivering a national record during her silver-medal performance. Earlier in the night, Pallister won gold in the 200 freestyle, as she defeated Canadian Summer McIntosh.<\/p>\n<p>The final of the 400 freestyle was expected to feature Ledecky vs. Pallister vs. McIntosh, but a miscalculation of her prelims swim left McIntosh out of the championship heat and racing in the consolation final. On the men&#8217;s side, the 400 freestyle will be headlined by Australian <strong>Sam Short<\/strong>, already the gold medalist at Pan Pacs in the 800 freestyle. Short&#8217;s biggest challenge is expected to come from China&#8217;s <strong>Zhang Zhanshuo<\/strong>, the world junior record holder.<\/p>\n<p>Following the finals of the 400 freestyle, there will be women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s races in the 100 butterfly, 200 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.
