{"id":651005,"date":"2026-08-14T10:41:19","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T17:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=651005"},"modified":"2026-08-14T12:10:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T19:10:17","slug":"pan-pacific-championships-womens-day-three-prelims-world-record-holder-summer-mcintosh-bumped-to-b-final-in-400-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-pacific-championships-womens-day-three-prelims-world-record-holder-summer-mcintosh-bumped-to-b-final-in-400-free\/","title":{"rendered":"Pan Pacific Championships Women&#8217;s Day Three Prelims: World Record Holder Summer McIntosh Bumped to B Final in 400 Free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Pan Pacific Championships Women&#8217;s Day Three Prelims: World Record Holder Summer McIntosh Bumped to B Final in 400 Free<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2026 Pan Pacific Championships continued with the Day Three prelims on Friday, Aug. 14, at the Wollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, California.<\/p>\n<p>The events for Friday morning session include the 400 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 backstroke and 50 breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>This is a live recap of the women&#8217;s events.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2026\/2026-pan-pacific-champs-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li>C<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/usa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">omplete Pan Pacs Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 400 Freestyle<\/h2>\n<p>The table looked set for the anticipated three-way battle in the women&#8217;s 400 freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>The world record holder is Canada&#8217;s <strong>Summer McIntosh<\/strong>, the American record-holder is <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>, and Australia&#8217;s <strong>Lani Pallister<\/strong> came into the meet fifth all-time.<\/p>\n<p>But the prelims didn&#8217;t go as expected and only two of them will battle for the finals.<\/p>\n<p>McIntosh, the world-record holder, finished with the ninth-fastest time in the heats and will swim in the B finals.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian star went a 4:08.56 &#8211; She has the top 17 swims in history in the event.<\/p>\n<p>A loaded final will await her.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s<strong> Alexandria Perkins<\/strong> was second at 57.2.5<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong>, who has three bronze medals this week, took the third seed in 57.46.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yu Yiting<\/strong> was next at 57.47, followed by USA&#8217;s <strong>Torri Huske<\/strong> (57.72) and <strong>Alex Shackell<\/strong> (57.81).<\/p>\n<p>Ruck was out fast and hung on to hold off Shackell in their heat. Shackell will be in the B final.<\/p>\n<p>Yiting and Huske battled to a touch-out with one heat to go.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"651045\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Backstroke<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> topped another meet record during prelims at Pan Pacs, and this time, it was enough to make an A final.<\/p>\n<p>After breaking the meet mark in the 100 back, only to see it broken twice by her teammates, she will be in the A final in the 200 back at 2:05.97.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regan Smith<\/strong> lowered the record in 2:14.13, but Curzan had the second spot and will finally get an A final in Irvine.<\/p>\n<p>USA went 1-2-3-4, leaving some great swimmers out of the A final
