{"id":650725,"date":"2026-08-13T10:23:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T17:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=650725"},"modified":"2026-08-13T11:45:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T18:45:33","slug":"pan-pacific-championships-day-two-prelims-womens-live-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-pacific-championships-day-two-prelims-womens-live-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Pan Pacific Championships Day Two Women: Hein, Tang Race to Top Seeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2026 Pan Pacific Championships continued with the Day Two prelims on Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Wollett Aquatic Center in Irvine, California.<\/p>\n<p>The events for Thursday morning session include the 400 IM, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 50 backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>This is a live recap of the women&#8217;s events.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/2026\/2026-pan-pacific-champs-live-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li>C<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/usa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">omplete Pan Pacs Coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400 IM<\/h3>\n<p>Two highly contested heats saw plenty of lead changes and set up an intriguing final between Australia&#8217;s<strong> Jenna Forrester<\/strong>, Canada&#8217;s world record-holder <strong>Summer McIntosh<\/strong> and American <strong>Alex Walsh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the final heat, McIntosh split a 59.70 to open a big lead quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Forrester pulled close during the backstroke leg and took the lead halfway through the breaststroke at Alex Walsh began to charge.<\/p>\n<p>Going into the freestyle, Forrester held a slim lead over McIntosh and Walsh.<\/p>\n<p>Walsh kept the charge in the final 50 but Forrester held on for a 4:35.36, just ahead of McIntosh (4:35.56). Walsh finished in 4:36.11.<\/p>\n<p>The second of three prelims heats were hotly contested with a lot of lead changes.<\/p>\n<p>In the second heat, Yu Yiteng took the lead in the second heat after the butterfly leg, ahead of <strong>Katie Grimes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Grimes was ahead by a body length after the backstroke. Her lead dwindled in the breaststroke leg as Argentina&#8217;s <strong>Agostina Hein<\/strong> who took the lead at the breaststroke touch with Grimes and<strong> Emma Weyant<\/strong> just behind.<\/p>\n<p>Grimes took the lead back at the freestyle turn but Agostina pulled ahead and touched in 4:35.43, a little more than a second off her best time.<\/p>\n<p>Grimes was second in the heat.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, Hein took the top seed in 4:35.43, ahead of Forrester (4:35.45), McIntosh (4:35.56), Walsh (4:35.72) and Grimes (4:36.11).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Free<\/h3>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 100 free was another stacked race with plenty of Americans vying for two spots in the final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gretchen<\/strong> Walsh threw down a 52.27 to earn the top seed in the finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong> and Austalia&#8217;s <strong>Olivia Wunch<\/strong> \/><\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong> didn&#8217;t swim the 100 free because she wanted to focus on the 100 breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Douglass swam a strong race in prelims but will have her work cut out for her.<\/p>\n<p>The top seed of the morning went to <strong>Qianting Tang<\/strong> of China in 1:05.8.<\/p>\n<p>Douglass was next at 1:06.10, while fellow American <strong>McKenzie Siroky<\/strong> was close behind at 1:06.27.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Sophie Angus<\/strong> and Japan&#8217;s <strong>Satomi Suzuki<\/strong> were next Berkoff<\/strong> went a 27.04 to take the record and the top seed in tonight&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> was once again the tough-luck third American, though she again
