Pan Pacific Championships, Night One Finals: Lani Pallister Clips Summer McIntosh in 200 Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last month, Lani Pallister<\/strong> exited the pool at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a silver medal in the 200-meter freestyle, as she finished behind countrywoman Mollie O’Callaghan<\/strong>. A few weeks later, the Australian stands as the champion of the event at the Pan Pacific Championships, having started the meet in Southern California with a victory over Canadian superstar Summer McIntosh<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In a back-and-forth with McIntosh, Pallister led at the 150-meter mark and wouldn’t yield down the final length to claim the gold medal in 1:53.67. McIntosh was the silver medalist in 1:53.86, while New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather<\/strong> picked up the bronze medal with a swim of 1:55.05. Fairweather was also the bronze medalist at the Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n

Pallister’s time at Pan Pacs was just .02 off her career best and marked a 1.34-second improvement from the effort she produced at the Commonwealth Games. O’Callaghan was not in the field at Pan Pacs, as she was forced to withdraw from the meet with a back injury.<\/p>\n
