It\u2019s now time to kick back and relax and let the rest of it come up in its own time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThere are a few things I can compare but I\u2019ll keep that to myself\u2026I am happy with where I am at.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McEvoy made his Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow 12 years ago when he finished second to England\u2019s <strong>Ben Proud<\/strong> in the 50m freestyle final with fellow Australian <strong>James Magnussen<\/strong> third \u2013 2014 the first of three consecutive gold medal wins for Proud who went on to set a Games record of 21.11 on the Gold Coast in 2018 with McEvoy third.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proud, who along with Magnussen were two of the highest profile defectors to the Enhanced Games this year, wrapped up his three-peat in Birmingham in 2022 while McEvoy was on a break and weighing up his future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A future which has seen the four-time Olympian unleash his power packed new lease of life on swimming\u2019s one-lap-dash.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI am excited to see what the experience is like. what the venue is like ..now 12 years on\u2026a lot has changed and a lot has changed for the better as well\u2026,&#8221; said McEWvoy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI just want to take a trip down memory lane \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McEvoy aims to add his first Commonwealth Games gold to a collection that includes that elusive Olympic gold he won in Paris in 2024 and the two World Championship golds in 2023 and 2025.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gold in Glasgow will also be another milestone \u2013 to become only the second Australian to take the title since Andrew Baildon beat 1982 Games high jumper Angus Waddell in Auckland in 1990.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McEvoy could well lead an Australian trifecta in the 50m freestyle with fellow Dolphins, <strong>Jamie Jack<\/strong> (21.52) and <strong>Flynn Southam<\/strong> (21.72) next in line on the Commonwealth rankings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe depth we have on the team right now is incredible\u2026we have a lot of kids coming through\u2026who are rookies on the team,\u201d said McEvoy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd a lot of young kids who are ranking really well in the world\u2026not just currently but looking ahead to Brisbane 2032..<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeing young now, you are going to be of age and in your prime for a home Games\u2026.I am excited to see them now and what they can do but I\u2019m also excited to see that next wave move through over the next six years to see where they are in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The Games get under way with the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, July 23 with the six-days of swimming from Friday, July 24 to Wednesday July 29.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The heats and semi-finals of the men\u2019s 50m freestyle will be swum on Saturday, July 25 with the final set down for Sunday, July 26.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Commonwealth Games, Glasgow: Cam McEvoy Launches 50m Freestyle World Record Attack With Personal Best Training Time in German Camp The world\u2019s fastest human Cam McEvoy is on track to launch<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7938,"featured_media":628900,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"dois","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[3,122075,10],"tags":[125568,26834,53097,25342,40357],"class_list":["post-647003","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","category-oceania","category-world","tag-andrew-baildon","tag-ben-proud","tag-cam-mcevoy","tag-james-magnussen","tag-tim-lane"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v24.3 (Yoast SEO v24.3) -
