These regional competitions will also feature varying guidelines for country entries in both prelims and finals. Below is a breakdown of how each meet will handle athlete participation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Commonwealth Games<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Unlike the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olympics.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Olympic Games<\/a> and World Championships, where athletes from the United Kingdom compete as Great Britain, athletes at the Commonwealth Games represent their specific country. Swimmers will represent England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.<\/li>\n<li>Each country can enter up to three athletes per event, and all three swimmers are eligible to advance to the final. At the 2022 edition of the Commonwealth Games, Australia managed podium sweeps in four of the five women&#8217;s freestyle events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>European Championships<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Each nation is allowed to enter four athletes per event at the European Championships, but only two are permitted to advance out of the preliminaries into the semifinals or finals. Consequently, several events will feature quick prelims, as athletes must battle with their countrymen for the right to move into the next round.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pan Pacific Championships<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The procedures for Pan Pacs are similar to the European Champs, but with slight tweaks. Athletes who are qualified for the meet can enter any events of their choosing, and countries are not limited to how many swimmers can race in each event. However, each nation can only advance two swimmers into the championship final of an event, with another two athletes eligible for the consolation
