So, what is the is the impact for Australia for both Glasgow and Irvine?<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australia does have great depth in backstroke swimming with doors open now for the likes of <strong>Mollie O\u2019Callaghan, Iona Anderson, Hannah Fredericks <\/strong>and <strong>Jenna Forrester.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The biggest question surrounds the multi-talented Olympic champion O\u2019Callaghan \u2013 and whether she puts her hand up to fill the vacancy left by her best friend in the 100m backstroke \u2013 an event where Mollie holds the sixth fastest time in history.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her 57.88 was swum at the 2024 Olympic Trials (but which saw her withdraw from the event to concentrate on the 100 and 200m freestyles) &#8211; so a real gold medal is in the offing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australia already have qualifiers Anderson (Highlanders, WA) 58.60 and Fredericks (St Peters Western, QLD) 59.79 \u2013 Anderson of course the 2024 World Championship silver medallist who took O\u2019Callaghan\u2019s place in the event at the Paris Olympics where she finished fifth in 58.43\u2013 the youngest swimmer in the field by three years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McKeown\u2019s withdrawal also leaving a vacancy in Australia\u2019s 4x100m medley relay with Anderson very much in the box seat for a real gold medal chance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">O\u2019Callaghan already has a busy Games schedule for Glasgow, having qualified for both the 100 and 200m freestyle \u2013 and is a mainstay in all three relays \u2013 the 4&#215;100 and 4x200m freestyles and 4x100m medley.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adding the 100m backstroke on Day Two of Glasgow would see O\u2019Callaghan cram a heat and semi-final into the same day as the heat and final of her per event the 200m freestyle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And the 100m backstroke final into her day three schedule which already features the heat and semi-final of the 100m freestyle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McKeown\u2019s withdrawal should also see Fredericks (sixth in the Trials) join O\u2019Callaghan and Anderson in the 50m backstroke and Forrester (fourth in the Trials) join Anderson and Fredericks in the 200m.<\/p>\n<p>The ball now sitting squarely in the O\u2019Callaghan\/Dean Boxall court.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is The Commonwealth Games Door in Glasgow Now Open For Mollie O\u2019Callaghan To Replace Kaylee McKeown In the 100m Backstroke ?
