{"id":646514,"date":"2026-07-07T11:01:58","date_gmt":"2026-07-07T18:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=646514"},"modified":"2026-07-07T11:03:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-07T18:03:24","slug":"arizona-states-jonny-kulow-wins-big-12s-bob-bowlsby-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arizona-states-jonny-kulow-wins-big-12s-bob-bowlsby-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Arizona State\u2019s Jonny Kulow Wins Big 12\u2019s Bob Bowlsby Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Arizona State\u2019s Jonny Kulow Wins Big 12\u2019s Bob Bowlsby Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Arizona State men\u2019s swimmer <strong>Jonny Kulow<\/strong> was the only male winner of the Big 12\u2019s annual Bob Bowlsby Award, <a href=\"https:\/\/big12sports.com\/news\/2026\/7\/7\/general-big-12-conference-announces-allstate-commissioners-cup-winner-and-bob-bowlsby-student-athletes-of-the-year.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced on Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kulow is the only male winner of the ward this year, joining TCU basketball player <strong>Olivia Miles<\/strong> and Cincinnati track and field athlete <strong>Juliette Laracuente-Huebner<\/strong> on the women\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth annual award is given to student-athletes, \u201cwho exemplify leadership and achievement on and off the field.\u201d Winners are voted by league athletic directors. The award honors former the conference commissioner.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/big-12-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big 12 Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Kulow is a five-time NCAA champion and 22-time All-American <a href=\"https:\/\/thesundevils.com\/news\/2026\/07\/07\/jonny-kulow-named-bob-bowlsby-award-recipient\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">who wrapped up his career this season<\/a>. A four-time Academic All-American, he maintained a 4.0 GPA all eight semesters as a microbiology major. He served as a team captain for two years, leading Arizona State to the NCAA team title in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>As a senior, he helped the Sun Devils win NCAA titles in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and 400 free relay. They set an NCAA record in the 200 free at NCAAs and an NCAA mark in the 400 free relay at the Big 12 Championships, at which the Sun Devils eased to the team title.<\/p>\n<p>Kulow was part of conference championships all four years, the first two in the Pac-12 and then the last two in the Big 12.
