A talented freestyler, Sotomayor will arrive in Tempe in Fall 2028.<\/p>\n<p>His older sister,\u00a0<strong>Alexia Sotomayor<\/strong>, is a rising sophomore for the Sun Devils.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding his commitment, he said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>&#8220;I\u2019m beyond grateful and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue with both my academic and athletic careers at Arizona State University. Thank you God, my family, specially my sister, and everyone who\u2019s supported me along this process. I would like to thank Coach Herbie, Coach Mike, and all the ASU coaches for this incredible opportunity. So excited to be part of this family, Go Devils and Forks Up!&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sotomayor won seven individual events at the Campeonato Nacional por Categorias PL in December 2025.\u00a0Last summer, he competed in five events at the 10th World Aquatics Junior Championships. He won the 800m free and 1500m free at the Panam Aquatic Championships in May 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, he set four national age group records and one national record at the National Championships last month.<\/p>\n<p>In LCM, his best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200m free &#8211; 1:53.84<\/li>\n<li>400m free &#8211; 3:57.29<\/li>\n<li>800m free &#8211; 8:15.78<\/li>\n<li>1500m free &#8211; 15:44.52<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In SCY, those times convert to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 free &#8211; 1:39.61<\/li>\n<li>500 free &#8211; 4:24.57<\/li>\n<li>1000 free &#8211; 9:12.79<\/li>\n<li>1650 free &#8211; 15:20.90<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Arizona State won the Big 12 Championship for the second straight year in 2026. The Sun Devils then went on to finish fourth at the 2026 NCAA Championships.
