Leon Marchand Undergoing Medical Treatment For Adductor Pain At French Championships; Withdraws From Finals Session<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leon Marchand<\/strong> is receiving medical treatment after experiencing pain in his adductor at the French Championships in Saint-\u00c9tienne.<\/p>\n

The four-time Olympic champion was competing in the 200 breast prelims on Monday morning where he was in control until the final 50 when his pace significantly dropped as he finished third in his heat and ninth overall to miss out on the A final.<\/p>\n

Marchand \u2013 whose 2:05.85 European record is the second fastest in history behind Qin Haiyang\u2019s<\/strong> world standard of 2:05.48 \u2013 won\u2019t appear in the B final and is instead undergoing treatment.<\/p>\n

“Leon felt pain in his adductor. He has withdrawn from the 200m breaststroke today,” the French national technical director Denis Auguin<\/strong> told journalists, AFP reported.<\/p>\n

“(Marchand is) receiving treatment. We’ll probably have to wait until tomorrow (Tuesday). If there’s an injury, we’ll need to wait a bit to get a clearer picture.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old, who is coached by Bob Bowman<\/strong> in Texas, opened his meet<\/a> with a 4:04.56 400IM, the fifth fastest in history and is also entered into the 200 free (Tuesday), 200 fly (Wednesday) and the 200IM which closes out the competition on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The adductor muscles are the group of muscles on the inside of your thighs that pull your legs together. According to NHS (National Health Service) information, they\u2019re primarily worked in swimming during the breaststroke kick, where forceful “squeezing” movements are repeated hundreds of times.<\/p>\n
