LOS ALAMITOS, Calif., January 1. 2003 is in the books, but the U.S. men's
\nwater polo team will be kicking off 2004 in fine fashion this weekend at the NorAm Cup at the USA Water Polo National Aquatics Center in Los Alamitos (Calif.). <\/p>\n
The three-day tournament, which runs from Friday (January 2) through Sunday (January 4), features senior, cadet (born in 1987), and
\ndevelopmental (born in 1989) teams from the U.S. and Canada. <\/p>\n
The sixth-ranked U.S. men's team, which recently saw the return of its three collegiate level players, will highlight the competition with three games against northern rival Canada. Team USA finished sixth at the 2003 World Championships before moving on to qualify for the 2004 Olympics by winning gold at the Pan American Games. The U.S. then capped off its competitive season by taking third at the 2003 FINA World League Super Finals.<\/p>\n
Playing the undercard games of the tournament will be the 2003 U.S. cadet and developmental teams and two counterpart teams from Canada, designated "Canada East" and "Canada West." <\/p>\n
This will be the first international competition of the Olympic year for any U.S. Water Polo National Team. The U.S. men's senior National Team will have joint training and three official games with Germany from January 11-20.<\/p>\n
Tickets will be $5.00 per session for adults and $3.00 per session for
\nstudents.<\/p>\n
