SEOUL, South Korea, December 29. INTERNATIONAL Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice President Kim Un-Yong of South Korea, one of the most powerful figures in international sports, was summoned to Seoul by South Korean prosecutors today over new corruption allegations. Kim, who was arrested after investigators raided his home and office and seized a safe and documents, promised to co-operate fully, according to local media. <\/p>\n

The charges emerged when police nabbed a former local sports official who was accused of bribing Kim, a charge Kim has denied. Nonetheless, Kim, 72, faces questioning over corruption, embezzlement and taking foreign currency out of the country, according to the South Korean news agency, Yonhap. <\/p>\n

"I will tell everything to the prosecution," Kim said after arriving at the Seoul district prosecutor's office. In a written statement, Kim proclaimed his innocence and denounced local media reports that described him as "a corrupt figure." <\/p>\n

Kim, who is also head of the World Taekwondo Federation, was one of several IOC members implicated in a corruption investigation surrounding the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
