Photo Courtesy Delly Carr (Swimming Australia).<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chalmers had made the decision to change his mindset coming into the morning heats session.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saying he had been inspired by his old sparing partner and good mate, McEvoy and his success after he turned 30, with Chalmers embarking on his own mission to beat Father Time and execute the perfect race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today in the morning heats of the 100m freestyle, the perfect race was all about conserving energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chalmers qualified fifth fastest for the final, touching in 48.65 with Flynn Southam (Bond, QLD) the fastest (47.98) and taking over the lane normally reserved for the King, with a host of sub 49ers making up a red-hot field.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI tried to put as minimal energy and mental energy as I possibly could to just get through the round, that is the most important thing,\u201d said Chalmers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSo as much as I am always expected to be in the middle lane for a final, I&#8217;d love to be in the outside lane so that people can&#8217;t necessarily ride off me as much as they sometimes do\u2026doing what I needed to do.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m just trying to hold on; I\u2019m sure these young guys will catch me at some stage. 24.58 to Chalmers 24.78 to clock 47.94 \u2013 posting two impressive sub-48 secs swims in one day \u2013 with no one more impressed than Chalmers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor Flynn to swim two 47s in one day is pretty special \u2013 I have done that on several occasions and I know how tough that can be,\u201d said Chalmers, impressed with the entire field.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was that close that the top four could well have been any order and transforming it into Gold in 2028 in LA..that\u2019s the goal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And they\u2019ll get two chances in Glasgow against England and Scotland and then in Irvine against the USA and Canada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Joining Chalmers will be a mainstay of Australia\u2019s Olympic and World Championship relays <strong>Kai Taylor<\/strong> (St Peters Western, QLD) 48.21 and one of the real standouts of this Trials meet \u2013 Nudgee\u2019s <strong>Harrison Turner<\/strong> \u2013 who won his specialist 200m butterfly on night three after finishing third in the 200m freestyle and third in the 100m butterfly to secure a MVP ticket on the 2026 men\u2019s relay squads that are certainly taking shape.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just ask the King!<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>TOP 8 100m
