{"id":644748,"date":"2026-06-08T14:50:06","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T21:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=644748"},"modified":"2026-06-08T14:56:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-08T21:56:49","slug":"bob-bowman-named-head-coach-for-u-s-team-at-2026-pan-pacs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/bob-bowman-named-head-coach-for-u-s-team-at-2026-pan-pacs\/","title":{"rendered":"Bob Bowman Named Head Coach for U.S. Team at 2026 Pan Pacs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bob Bowman Named Head Coach for U.S. Team at 2026 Pan Pacs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bob Bowman<\/strong> on Monday was named the head coach of the United States team at the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Bowman will direct a staff of eight at the meet which takes place in Irvine, California, this summer. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mariah-denigan-ivan-puskovitch-lead-team-usa-for-pan-pacs-open-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open water competition<\/a> is Aug. 10, followed by pool competition Aug. 12-15.<\/p>\n<p>Bowman is the director of swimming and diving and men\u2019s head coach at the University of Texas. He\u2019s won the last three NCAA titles as head coach, two with the Longhorns and in 2024 with Arizona State.<\/p>\n<p>Bowman was the head coach of the U.S. men\u2019s team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio and led the U.S. team at Pan Pacs in 2014.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pan-pacs-team-imperfect-but-2026-is-best-year-for-no-u-s-selection-meet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pan Pacs Team Imperfect, But 2026 is Best Year for No U.S. Selection Meet<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI am humbled and grateful to lead this team at this summer\u2019s Pan Pacific Championships,\u201d Bowman said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/news\/2026\/06\/08\/bob-bowman-leads-usa-swimming-coaching-staff-for-2026-pan-pacific-championships-presented-by-one-america-financial?utm_campaign=button_list_PanPacCoachingStaffAnnounced&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=later-linkinbio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a USA Swimming statement<\/a>. \u201cThis meet has traditionally been a launching pad for new talent and an opportunity for experienced veterans to begin their Olympic campaigns in earnest. We have a strong group of athletes, coaches, and staff who will represent our country well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are thrilled to bring this group of talented coaches together to lead our Pan Pacific Championships Team,\u201d USA Swimming National Team Managing Director <strong>Greg Meehan<\/strong> said. \u201cThey are quality people, teachers, and mentors whose ability to connect with others will strengthen our team\u2019s performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bowman didn\u2019t go far for his assistants, including <strong>Carol Capitani,<\/strong> the head coach the Texas women\u2019s program. <strong>Todd DeSorbo,<\/strong> the head coach of the women\u2019s team at the Paris Olympics in 2024, is on the staff, as is Tokyo Olympics men\u2019s head coach <strong>Dave Durden. Chris Lindauer <\/strong>and<strong> Ray Looze<\/strong> add two of the top college head coaches in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Florida is represented by senior associate head coach <strong>Whitney Hite.
