{"id":644286,"date":"2026-06-05T03:05:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=644286"},"modified":"2026-06-05T03:07:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T10:07:29","slug":"sarah-sjostrom-named-in-22-strong-sweden-squad-for-european-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-named-in-22-strong-sweden-squad-for-european-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m Named in 22-Strong Sweden Squad for European Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m Named in 22-Strong Sweden Squad for European Championships<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Sarah Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m<\/strong> will return to international competition after being named among a 22-strong <strong>Sweden<\/strong> squad for the European Championships in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>The three-time Olympic champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-registers-impressive-return-to-racing-in-50-freestyle-siobhan-haughey-claims-victory\/\">returned to competition<\/a> at the <strong>Swim Open Stockholm<\/strong> in April, just over seven months after giving birth to her son, Adrian.<\/p>\n<p>It was her first meet since the Paris Olympics in 2024 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/paris-olympics-day-9-sarah-sjostrom-completes-sprint-double-with-50-free-gold\/\">where she won the 50\/100 free double<\/a> \u2013 finishing second in the 50 free in 24.36, 0.02 off winner <strong>Siobhan Haughey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It earned her a place on the team for the Europeans at the Olympic Aquatics Centre, Saint-Denis in August where she\u2019ll take on the 50 free and fly.<\/p>\n<p>Sj\u00f6str\u00f6m is the most decorated swimmer in the history of the European Championships with 28 medals since her first appearance at Eindhoven 2008 where the 14-year-old won the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHer capacity, experience and ability to perform during championships are well known. At the same time, she will be an important part of the team, both in the pool and on the sidelines,&#8221; said coach <strong>Martina Aronsson\u00a0<\/strong>through the Swedish federation.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the team are <strong>Victor Johansson<\/strong>, <strong>Sara Junevik<\/strong> and <strong>Louise Hansson<\/strong> with further swimmers able to add their names to the roster at the Swedish Championships at the end of June.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have seen strong performances throughout the season,\u201d added Aronsson. \u201cSeveral have already shown that they can compete at the highest international level, while a new generation is now taking its place in the senior context.
