The first trial will be the use of 10 competition lanes for semifinals and finals of events 400 meters and shorter at the World Champs. The 10-lane setup, which has been used for prelims in World Aquatics events, will also be utilized in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaquatics.com\/series\/206\/world-aquatics-swimming-world-cup-2026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Cup<\/a> competition.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the governing body noted that athletes of member federations will have the opportunity to earn wildcard berths to the World Champs via World Cup competition, which could provide nations with more than three athletes in certain events. The concept is similar to what has been seen in international events operated by World Athletics. Over the years, World Athletics has allowed additional qualifying spots for reigning world champions and Diamond League champions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__inner\">\n<div class=\"article__body article-body\" data-widget=\"article-body\" data-script=\"fina_article\" data-initialised=\"true\">\n<p>\u201cWorld Aquatics is constantly looking to provide more opportunities for our athletes and our member federations. These decisions are a clear reflection of this,\u201d said WA President Husain Al Musallam. &#8220;These new concepts will enable World Aquatics to ensure a wider representation of swimmers on the starting blocks at the 2026 World Aquatics Swimming Championships and in many of the semifinals and finals. With extra wildcard qualification chances becoming available on our Silk Road Tour \u2013 the three stops of the 2026 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup \u2013 the route to Beijing is now one with even greater opportunities for swimmers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While 10 lanes will be used for events spanning 50 to 400 meters, eight lanes will remain in use for the 800 and 1500 distances, along with relay
