{"id":643725,"date":"2026-05-22T18:57:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T01:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=643725"},"modified":"2026-05-22T18:57:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T01:57:32","slug":"long-time-bucknell-head-coach-dan-schinnerer-departs-for-ncap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/long-time-bucknell-head-coach-dan-schinnerer-departs-for-ncap\/","title":{"rendered":"Long-Time Bucknell Head Coach Dan Schinnerer Departs for NCAP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Long-Time Bucknell Head Coach Dan Schinnerer Departs for NCAP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bucknell head men\u2019s and women\u2019s swim coach <strong>Dan Schinnerer<\/strong> stepped down this week after 20 seasons in charge to take a senior coaching position at Nation\u2019s Capital Aquatic Club.<\/p>\n<p>Schinnerer has been at Bucknell since 2006. He\u2019s the longest-tenured coach in the history of the school\u2019s women\u2019s program and second-longest for the men\u2019s (behind hall of famers Dick Russell). Schinnerer went 121-58-1 in women\u2019s dual meets and 100-80 in men\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n<p>Schinnerer led Bucknell teams to seven runner-up finishes at the Patriot League women\u2019s championships and four on the men\u2019s side. He was named conference coach of the year five times \u2013 three on the men\u2019s side (2008, 2010 and 2022) and two on the women\u2019s (2013, 2020).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Twenty years goes by very quickly, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to be part of Bucknell University and the Bucknell swimming and diving family,&#8221; Schinnerer <a href=\"https:\/\/bucknellbison.com\/news\/2026\/5\/19\/womens-swimming-and-diving-dan-schinnerer-to-step-down-as-bucknell-head-swimming-and-diving-coach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a team statement<\/a>. &#8220;It is a special place and a special program. Bucknell was very good to my family and me, but at this stage of our lives this new opportunity presented itself, and we believe it will be best for us moving forward. I am thankful for all the people I have had the chance to work with here. I hope I have made a positive difference in people&#8217;s lives while helping them learn and grow through sport.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Bucknell was third <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/navy-swimming-sweeps-titles-at-patriot-league-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the women\u2019s meet in 2026<\/a> and fifth in the men\u2019s championships.<\/p>\n<p>Schinnerer was hired after serving as an assistant coach at Michigan. He swam at Yale.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would like to thank and congratulate Coach Schinnerer on a tremendous 20-year run leading the Bison swimming and diving teams,&#8221; Vice President for Athletics and Recreation <strong>Tim Pavlechko<\/strong> said. &#8220;Dan has positively impacted countless student-athletes during his tenure at Bucknell, and while we are saddened to see him depart, we are grateful for everything he has given to Bison Athletics.
