McGill won a gold medal in the men\u2019s 400 medley relay at the 2012 London Olympics along with a pair of World Championships relay gold medals and the bronze medal in the 100 butterfly at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai in a storied career.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/sec-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SEC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cI am blessed beyond measure to be returning to Auburn,\u201d McGill said <a href=\"https:\/\/auburntigers.com\/news\/2026\/05\/18\/tyler-mcgill-returns-to-auburn-swim-and-dive-staff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in a press release<\/a>. \u201cThis university and community have provided me, my wife (Julianne) and our children (Amelia and Tenny) with far more than we could ever repay. Auburn is made special by people who love it and by the relationships forged here. I\u2019m excited to be in a position where I can help foster those relationships, build new ones, and make an impact both on and off the pool deck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McGill will be tasked with helping to, \u201cbuild bridges and partnerships with our community, local businesses, camps and clinics, Auburn\u2019s USA Swimming LSC and Alumni who will benefit the student-athletes in the Name Image and Likeness space.\u201d He will also have a coaching role in daily practice video and race analysis.<\/p>\n<p>McGill was a two-time NCAA relay champion and an SEC relay champ at Auburn. He was a five-time All-American his senior season. He\u00a0graduated in 2010 and joined the Auburn staff in 2013-14. He still holds the program record in the 100 fly at 44.63 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very excited to welcome Tyler and Julianne back to Auburn and the Auburn Swimming &amp; Diving Family in an official capacity once again as Director of External Engagement and Performance Science,\u201d Wochomurka said. \u201cTyler\u2019s story is uniquely \u2018Auburn being Auburn.\u2019 He reached the very pinnacle of sport while fully embodying what it means to live the Auburn Creed. His impact on our student-athletes, insights for our staff, and innovative approach for external connection points within the Auburn-Opelika community and our proud Auburn Swimming and Diving Alumni
