Claire Weinstein Chasing Breakthrough Performances in Middle-Distance Freestyle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the Olympians scheduled to race at this week\u2019s TYR Pro Series stop in Sacramento<\/a> is Claire Weinstein<\/strong>, still a teenager but already a longtime staple for Team USA at the international level. Is the 19-year-old\u2019s best season on the horizon? There is plenty of reason for that type of optimism.<\/p>\n

Weinstein is coming off a strong freshman year at Cal-Berkeley, a campaign that was highlighted by an NCAA title in the 500-yard freestyle. Her initial collegiate season also featured a runnerup finish in the 1650 freestyle and an eighth-place effort in the 200 freestyle. For the summer, Weinstein has returned to Nevada, where she is training under her longtime coach, Ron Aitken<\/strong>, and alongside former training partner, Bella Sims<\/strong>. The work in Las Vegas will be geared toward having Weinstein at her sharpest for the Pan Pacific Championships in Southern California in August.<\/p>\n

Despite her youth, Weinstein has been a member of every major American roster since the 2022 World Championships in Budapest. At last year\u2019s World Championships in Singapore, where Weinstein was affected by the stomach illness that ravaged the American squad, she earned a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle.
