Germany Names Team for European Championships in Paris; Johannes Liebmann Set for Pool & Open Water<\/h4>\n

Newly-crowned European 800 free record holder<\/a> Johannes Liebmann<\/strong> is among 44 swimmers to be named in the Germany squad for the European Championships in Paris.<\/p>\n

Liebmann <\/strong>will compete in the 3k knockout sprint in the River Seine before turning his attention to the pool programme which runs from 10-16 August at the Olympic Aquatic Centre.<\/p>\n

Liebmann is one of the Magdeburg powerhouse selected for the European showcase along with Florian Wellbrock<\/strong> (open water), Isabel Gose and Lukas M\u00e4rtens in what is a strong German squad. They\u2019re joined by double world silver medallist<\/strong> Sven Schwarz, world 100m breaststroke champion Anna Elendt<\/strong>, Olympic open water silver medallist Oliver Klemet<\/strong> and Paris Olympian Melvin Imoudu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Elendt won 200 breaststroke gold at the short-course Europeans in Lublin last December but has yet to stand on the continental long-course podium. M\u00e4rtens won 400 free gold and 800 silver at Roma 2022 and subsequently lowered the WR in the former as well as claiming the Olympic and world titles.<\/p>\n

“The Olympic Games in Paris and also the World Championships in Singapore have recently given us a lot of momentum, which we now want to use for our return to the French capital. But the focus is not only on the fight for the medals. We want to give younger talents the chance to gain important experience for their further careers,” said\u00a0Christian Hansmann<\/strong>, board member for competitive sports at the DSV.<\/p>\n
