{"id":643057,"date":"2026-05-03T20:49:42","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T03:49:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=643057"},"modified":"2026-05-03T20:49:42","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T03:49:42","slug":"chase-kreitler-resigns-as-pitt-head-swim-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chase-kreitler-resigns-as-pitt-head-swim-coach\/","title":{"rendered":"Chase Kreitler Resigns as Pitt Head Swim Coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Chase Kreitler Resigns as Pitt Head Swim Coach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chase Kreitler<\/strong> on Sunday resigned as the head coach of Pitt\u2019s swimming and diving team despite a historic 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n<p>Kreitler said in a resignation letter that Pitt \u201cintends to move in a different strategic direction after the 2026-27 season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kreitler spent four seasons at the helm of the panthers, arriving after a stint as an assistant coach at the University of California.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/meet\/acc-swimming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACC Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This season, Pitt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pitt-led-by-sixth-place-women-assemble-historic-acc-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finished sixth at the ACC Championships<\/a> on the women\u2019s side. <strong>Claire Jansen<\/strong> finished third in the women\u2019s 200 back at ACCs, the first medal for a Pitt women\u2019s swimmer in a decade, and <strong>Julian Koch<\/strong> added the program\u2019s sixth men\u2019s medal in program history. (Koch has since transferred to Tennessee.)<\/p>\n<p>The program set 19 team records, including all five men\u2019s relays, and exceeded 20 years of NCAA relay A cuts at the meet. The men\u2019s team had been seventh, tying the highest in program history, in 2024 at ACCs, led by two-time ACC champion diver Cameron Cash.<\/p>\n<p>The Pitt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pitts-historic-ncaas-latest-step-for-growing-womens-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">women notched their highest team finish at NCAAs<\/a> in 29 years in 2025, scoring 21 points and finishing 27th, thanks to the program\u2019s first All-American since 1986 in <strong>Sophie Yendell,<\/strong> who was fifth in the 50 free. This year, the women blasted past that, finishing 16th with 55 points. Jansen finished fourth in the 200 back and seventh in the 100 back. <strong>Sydney Gring<\/strong> was 10th in the 200 individual medley, 11th in the 100 back and 16th in the 200 butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Kreitler was part of two NCAA men\u2019s championships at Cal in 2019 and 2022, with a 2021 national runner-up result in between. He\u2019s worked with seven Olympians at the Tokyo games and was an assistant coach at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships and the 2019 World University Games. Kreitler previously worked as an assistant to <strong>Greg Meehan<\/strong> for the Stanford women\u2019s team for a year and for two seasons with <strong>Eddie Reese<\/strong> at the Texas men\u2019s team.
