Schwarz and M\u00e4rtens were minimally separated throughout the 16-lap race, but it was Schwarz who found his way to the wall first, behind a performance of 7:41.14. That mark was just .17 clear of the 7:41.31 produced by M\u00e4rtens.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e4rtens was the winner of the 400 freestyle during Thursday night&#8217;s competition and he went into the last length of the 800 freestyle with a slight edge on Schwarz, 7:14.13 to 7:14.41. However, Schwarz closed with a split of 26.73 to overtake his countryman and secure the national title. Schwarz is the second-fastest European in the history of the event, thanks to a career-best clocking of 7:38.12.<\/p>\n<p>While Schwarz emerged on top in distance action, <strong>Kaii Winkler<\/strong> was the victor of the 100 freestyle in commanding fashion. Following up on a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly from Thursday night, Winkler posted a time of 48.16 in the 100 free, an effort that was comfortably ahead of the 48.71 by <strong>Josha Salchow<\/strong>. On the women&#8217;s side, the 100 freestyle was claimed by <strong>Nina Holt<\/strong> in 54.38.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melvin Imoudu<\/strong> and <strong>Anna Elendt<\/strong> walked away with 100 breaststroke crowns. Imoudu was the only man to break the minute barrier in the event, as he touched the wall in 59.33. As for Elendt, she was more than a second faster than the field, going 1:06.91 for the win. In the women&#8217;s 1500 freestyle, <strong>Isabel Gose<\/strong> dipped below the 16-minute barrier to prevail in 15:59.42.<\/p>\n<p><a
