{"id":641822,"date":"2026-04-15T09:22:18","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T16:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=641822"},"modified":"2026-04-15T09:22:18","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T16:22:18","slug":"sec-awards-josh-liendo-camille-spink-earn-swimmers-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sec-awards-josh-liendo-camille-spink-earn-swimmers-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"SEC Awards: Josh Liendo, Camille Spink Earn Swimmers of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SEC has announced its end of year swimming and diving awards, led by swimmers of the year <strong>Josh<\/strong> <strong>Liendo<\/strong> of Florida and <strong>Camille Spink<\/strong> of Tennessee.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-mens-championships-josh-liendo-finishes-perfect-four-for-four-in-ncaa-titles-in-100-free-swims-third-fastest-time-ever\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Liendo<\/a> earns the conference&#8217;s top swimming honor for the second time in his career, adding to his 2023 recognition. He is one of nine Gators that combines for a conference-best 16 Men&#8217;s Swimmer of the Year honors in program history.<\/p>\n<p>At the NCAA Championships, the senior swept his individual events, the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly, to join <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong> as the only Gators to accomplish the feat twice. Liendo scored a meet-high 60 individual points and broke the NCAA, U.S. Open, meet and program records in the 100 fly twice in a single day. He also posted personal-best times of 18.06 in the 50 free and 39.91 in the 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>Liendo earned first-team All-America honors in all seven of his events for the first time in his career, finishing with 26 total honors to rank No. 4 in program history. His nine national titles rank second all-time among Gators.<\/p>\n<p>At the SEC Championships, Liendo totaled a team-high six medals and was named SEC Men&#8217;s Swimmer of the Meet. He reached the podium in all three individual events, becoming the first Gator in program history to win four consecutive SEC titles in the 100 fly and just the second to win four straight titles in a single event, joining <strong>Mike Heath<\/strong> (200 free, 1983-86).<\/p>\n<p>He also captured his first SEC title in the 50 free and added a bronze medal in the 100 free. The Canadian Olympian also contributed to Florida&#8217;s gold-medal finishes in the 200 free and 400 free relays as well as the 200 medley relay, who set the NCAA, SEC and program records (1:20.03).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Tennessee&#8217;s <strong>Camille Spink<\/strong> was named SEC Women&#8217;s Swimmer of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Spink enjoyed another phenomenal season for the Volunteers. Spink swept the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle at the 2026 SEC Championships, doing so for the second year in a row. Spink became the first female swimmer to accomplish the feat since Georgia&#8217;s <strong>Kara Lynn Joyce<\/strong>, who did so in 2006 &amp; 2007. Spink also took the crown in the 50 and 100 free for the third-straight year, with the last swimmer to win both races over a three-year span being former Vol <strong>Erika Brown<\/strong> from 2018-20.
