{"id":641311,"date":"2026-04-10T02:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-10T09:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=641311"},"modified":"2026-04-10T22:39:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T05:39:47","slug":"speedo-canadian-open-taylor-ruck-opens-with-meet-record-in-100-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/speedo-canadian-open-taylor-ruck-opens-with-meet-record-in-100-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Speedo Canadian Open: Taylor Ruck Opens with Meet Record in 100 Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Speedo Canadian Open: Taylor Ruck Opens with Meet Record in 100 Back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Olympian <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> opened the Speedo Canadian Open on Thursday with a meet record in the women\u2019s 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>Ruck set the mark in prelims at 59.34 seconds, downing the 2024 mark of 59.93 set by <strong>Maggie Mac Neil.<\/strong> Ruck was faster at night at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sports Centre in Alberta, stopping the clock in 59.07 seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingrid Wilm<\/strong> finished second in 1:00.24. <strong>Bridget Burton<\/strong> finished third.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/results.swimming.ca\/2026_Speedo_Canadian_Swimming_Open\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Speedo Canadian Open Results<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/americas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Americas Swimming News<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The meet record went down in the men\u2019s race as well, changing hands in the process. <strong>Blake Tierney<\/strong> set the record at 54.79 seconds in 2025, and he threatened it by going 54.93 in prelims. But <strong>Inbar Danziger<\/strong> pulled a surprise at night, the Israeli international by way of the University of Michigan going 54.69 to take the record and the win. Tierney was second in 54.94. <strong>Raben Dommann<\/strong> finished third in 55.20, four tenths up on <strong>Cole Pratt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oliver Dawson<\/strong> lowered his meet record in the 50 breaststroke by winning in 27.46. That\u2019s a half-second quicker than the 27.98 he used to win this meet last year. He was decisively better than <strong>Apollo Hess,<\/strong> who finished second in 28.48.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antoine Sauve<\/strong> won a relatively deep men\u2019s 200 free. He went 1:48.82, four tenths ahead of <strong>Daniel Kirchevsky.<\/strong> <strong>Finlay Knox<\/strong> was third in 1:49.47, with Pratt sixth in the second swim of his double.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ella Jansen<\/strong> held off American <strong>Bella Sims<\/strong> to win the women\u2019s 200 free. She went 1:57.62 to ease to the win ahead of Sims\u2019 1:59.09. Second was <strong>Emma O\u2019Croinin<\/strong> in 2:00.26. Canadian national teamer <strong>Brooklyn Douthwright<\/strong> was sixth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alexanne Lepage<\/strong> won the women\u2019s 50 breast in 31.94, winning a battle over veteran <strong>Sophie Angus<\/strong> by .05 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Both 1,500 freestyles involved meet records. <strong>Aiden Kirk<\/strong> set the meet mark on the men\u2019s side in 15:42.28. He was nearly six seconds up on <strong>Oliver Blanchard.<\/strong> In the women\u2019s race, <strong>Delphine Piatera-Mercier<\/strong> went 16:46.02 to claim the record, winning by 22 seconds over the field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taryn Weatherhead<\/strong> won the women\u2019s 200 butterfly in a thrilling race, going 2:15.22 to edge <strong>Juliet Nicholson<\/strong> by .04 seconds.
